OK, so it wasn't Maryland (BU fell to the Terps 52-81) or Oklahoma (American dropped a 54-83 contest to the Sooners) or and other Top 100 program across the country. It was simply St. Peter's (picked to finish near or at the bottom of the MAAC this year and owing a 292 RPI from last year). But, I believe I echo the voices of the 200-300 Lehigh fans on hand Saturday afternoon when I say a win is a win is a win no matter if it was against a team from the MAAC, ACC or Big 12. No less, a 17 point road win, at that! I'll take it. Our chance to take on the big boys will come soon enough with Rider, St. Joe's and Washington looming on the horizon. Their respective RPI's from last year, were you to ask, were a credible 110, 45, and 121. Rider and St. Joe's visit Stabler on 11/20 and 12/2; the Mountain Hawks travel to Seattle on 12/23.

Now, back to Game One.........

The Peacocks started out as if possessed. They won the tip, hit their first two shots, and pressed us into submission at the 17:23 mark with a 30 timeout. This, after the usually reliable Marcus Hall had turned the ball over three times (eight on the day) with the score reading: St. Peter's 10 - Zarih Carrington 4. As if to say, "Don't worry," Hall came out of the timeout on fire. He hit two quick jumpers, pulled down a defensive board and started a good looking "Hall to Buchberger to Anderson" three point play. Somehow, even though we were to fall behind by 7 at the the 12:56 mark, you knew things would go our way before the day was out. We had weathered a furious home team attack and soon settled into a inside-outside style of team play not normally associated with Lehigh basketball. It was fun to watch, not knowing for sure where the next points were to come from in the new found balanced
attack (guards 42 / forwards 37).

Other observations:

LU put four (Carrington, Hall, Anderson, and Small) into double figures, with Keefer right behind at 9.

Hall went 7 for 9, missing only one shot over the last 39 min and 40 seconds of play. Marquis is without a doubt our "go to" guy. Whenever the team needed a lift, it was Marquis that stepped up - be it with a floater in the lane, a fade-away two, or a three point dagger to set the other team straight. He's got it all.

Anderson continued to amaze from deep, hitting 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, and together with Michael Ojo, led the team in rebounds with 7. Is this the beginning of a new and tougher Anderson. Let's hope so, as neither of our 7 footers (Safstrom or Gourlay) seem ready to step up.

Solid "D." We held the Peacock guards to 3/16 shooting from deep and had Nick Leon's number all day limiting him to 2 for 12 overall. St. Peter's would hit 39.0% of their shots on the day. LU came in at 57.1%, going 50% from beyond the arc.

Selective shooting. Lehigh would take 10 fewer shots than St. Peter's (49 to 59) but hit 5 more (28 to 23).

Freshman, John Adams, may not soon forget his first taste of college ball. He committed three fouls, turned the ball over twice, and went 0-2 from the field.

Two freshmen, Adams and Maneri collected 29 minutes of playing time (19 for Adams and 10 for Maneri).

Carrington picked up from where he left off last season with a strong inside game scoring a most quiet 21 points in 30 minutes of play on 8-14 shooting. Throw in 5 boards and 4 steals and 5 for 6 from the line and Zahir had to be pleased with his performance.
