Seems more like a hike in the Pine Barrens - at least that's something pleasant to do in Jersey on a crisp, winter Saturday!

Well, at least the game is at 5, so we can do a Pine Barrens hike and stop off to watch the game before dinner. It doesn't have to ruin the day.

Beautiful sounds. But, it will be pretty quiet this time of year. I think that a lot of that music came from happy little frogs and toads at the spring prom.
As for what will be going on at Jadwin a few miles away next Saturday, I predict a split. Which is why I would like to see the women in the nightcap. I want to go home on a high note.

You actually think Penn will win the men's game?
Seriously? I would be shocked, shocked I say, if that happens. I'll be there, but maybe stunned is a better word for how I'll feel if Penn wins.

Astounded? Gobsmacked? Thunderstruck? Staggered?
It's an unlikely result, but it could happen. Princeton's clearly got a better team this year than Penn (almost anybody does), but, if they turn in a stinker, our boys might be able to steal one.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you. In the last 3 years, Penn has 8 total wins on the road with only 1 (NJIT by 1 in '12-'13) against a team that ended up with a winning record. Our other wins are Cornell (brutal) twice, Brown and Dartmouth in '12-'13, Monmouth, Navy and Binghamton. Even if Princeton is not all that, it is better than anyone we have beaten on the road in the last 3 seasons.
I would be flummoxed if we won this game.

League games are tougher for the better team. Used to work against Penn. Now it works to our advantage. This is a vulnerable opponent where we could steal one.
This also is a better team than us (and one that plays a style that tends to trouble us in recent years), so lots of scenarios where it doesn't go well. So I won't be stunned if we win a close one, and I won't be stunned if we get blown out. Nor will I be stunned by anything in between. Only surprise is if we go in and thump them like MJ, Paul R and Langel did way back when. How's that for not taking a position?

It's a major overstatement to say that I'm optimistic. A more accurate description might be 'pessimistically hopeful,' whatever that means.
If Penn wins I'll plotz.

Owens started for that team. But I would take it even with Frank Brown playing major minutes.

It seems we used to play fairly well against that system...Wonder what has changed.
I completely forgot that Frankie Brown was still on the team for my Freshman year. To think of the talent we used to have, even on the bench, makes me very sad.

Jed Ryan was the other starter. Still a year away from U and Koko.

I think a lot of the difference was court sense and toughness. The freshmen help on these.

Not true---Owens and Brown's senior year was U and Koko's freshman year---lost to Illinois in the NCAA's in Winston Salem. Here's the roster:

PU has been poor defending the trey. I don't think that's been Penn's specialty on offense this season.
OTOH, each Tiger loss has featured one of three or four areas collapsing at a time--too many drives and shooting fouls given up one game, turnovers the next, trey defense the next, defensive rebounding the next, offensive three-point shooting the next. If Princeton can keep all the edges of the rug rolled down at the same time, or the opponent can't exploit the one that happens to be curling up that day, they should be fine. Not a sure thing at all, but I'd be fairly confident were it not a rivalry game.

Other than Sam Jones standing and shooting and Tony Hicks being Tony Hicks, I don't think Princeton has too much to worry about in terms of Penn explosiveness.
I see a steadily growing Princeton lead---9 at the half and winning by 17-22. Penn at no time will challenge for the lead in the tail end of the game.

Depends if Jerome decides to give Sam Jones any significant PT--last game, he most certainly did not.
Hicks has usually given Princeton fits with his drives into the lane. He's never really had a shooter like Jones that he can dish to if Princeton collapses the lane.

I love Hicks, but passing off the drive is not what we have seen much of.
