This most recent Cornell Game Notes no longer has Donovan Wright listed on its 2016-2017 roster (bottom of Page 2). He is listed on the TV roster on Page 10, though. He is also still listed on the team website's roster page. He did not play at Syracuse the other evening. Time will tell if he is playing, injured or no longer with the team.

Cornell (3-10) 96
UMass-Lowell (5-9) 98 OT

The game was heavy on speed and offense with 27 lead changes and 19 ties. UML took a 2 point lead with 4.8 seconds to go, but Robert Hatter went coast-to-coast with a game tying layup at the buzzer.

Cornell missed its first 3 shots as UML took a 6 point lead with 2:46 to go in the extra period. The Red cut the lead to 2, 96-94, with 2:08 remaining, but missed its next three shots, including a Wil Bathurst layup with 6 seconds to go. After UML hit two free throws to take a 4 point lead with 4 seconds left, Troy Whiteside hit a buzzer beating layup for the final score.

Along with earlier road losses to Binghamton (8-6; KenPom #276) and Colgate (2-11; #292), last night's overtime defeat to the Riverhawks (#279) was one of the team's worst defeats of the season.

Cornell now finds itself at 3-10, ranked #263 in KenPom. With the sudden departure of sophomore forward Donovan Wright and the continued absence of David Onuorah and Jordan Abdur-Ra'oof, the Red are down to two front court players as conference play approaches.

With about 10 seconds to go in last night's contest, Matt Morgan went down with a knee injury. He did make it to the bench and locker room without assistance, but he was limping and in definite discomfort. Hopefully, the injury is not serious and he will be back for Monday's game at Albany or the conference opener against the Lions on 1/14.

No way around it, that's a disappointing and distressing loss. Wright is off the website's roster, so you have to figure he's gone. And David and Jordan have to be thinking about preserving a year of eligibility (at Cornell or as a grad student). As you noted, that leaves Cornell way too thin at the front line.
