DNH was supposedly offered by Gonzaga, good chance he would have ended up with a redshirt year and been on this team! Looks like he was released by his Polish team back in Dec?
JT: You committed to Penn last year despite receiving an offer from Gonzaga: what was the main factor in turning down a program that has made the NCAA tourney in each of Coach Mark Few’s 13 seasons at the helm?
DNH: The main reasons were the academics and the environment: none of the West Coast schools that recruited me had Penn’s combination of academics and athletics. Coach Jerome Allen is also one of the big reasons. It was an opportunity I could not turn down.

He likely would have spent a lot of time on the bench behind Karnowski, Gonzaga's 7 footer that is headed to the NBA (and was in the same class as DNH).

He is so painfully slow that I cannot see him very effective in the NBA. He did have a nice little hook (although it was MIA in the Finals against NBA quality opponents)but I don't see an NBA starting center there.

Tough to judge him solely based on that UNC game. He was totally spent--could get not any lift whatsoever. Basically took himself out of any meaningful role by staying far away from the hoop. During the season, of course, he was a real force around and to the hoop.

...against competition nowhere near his size and strength. I think the "spent" aspect was more due to the competition and speed than wear and tear. But no question someone will draft him.

He just choked. Missed a bunch of shots from places where he usually makes them. The large UNC defenders did not push him farther out or seriously threaten to block any of his attempts. But the NBA is moving away from post-up guys like him, even if they are great passers.

It's not that they pushed him out--it's that by midway through the 2nd half he took himself away from setting up close--he had no energy. It was as close to sitting it out without being on the bench.

I see Karnowski playing in Europe, even though he lacks the range and perimeter skills European teams prefer their bigs to have. He is a skilled player who can pass out of the post.

I think there were many indications in that final game both teams were not running in a full tank. All the missed bunnies, FTs short; the dull fouls (admittedly called very closely) and generally sloppy play. I watched Karnowski throughout the dance. He is not really a complete player. Probably has a better shot in Europe as he does have a midrange shot and his footwork/passing are strong. The NBA is just not a low-post game anymore. NBA teams like their bigs to be more athletic and preferably to shoot 3's.
