Sad news that Coach Thompson passed away. I understand there will be a memorial service in Rooke Chapel on Wednesday at 11.

I shuddered when I saw the title of this thread sensing what it would say. Sad news! Tommy was a Sigma Chi fraternity brother of mine, although I cannot say we were close. He was a Senior when I was a Freshman. He was a fantastic athlete in so many sports.

Very nice story by David Jones, with quotes from Flannery and Woollum.

  • BisonRoadWarrior Said:

From the article: "Current Atlanta Hawks player Mike Muscala later became the all-time leading scorer under Flannery."

What?

Good article despite that glaring error! You know back in the day ( read that my day), freshman did not play varsity sports. Also the season schedule was about 22 games. Thus players like Tommy played 66 games if they stayed healthy. Compare that to nearly 120 games todays' players play. Thus a TT who scored something in the neighborhood of 850 points, would project out to about a 1500 point scorer with today's schedules. Bison hoops was not what it is today back then, but we played in a conference that included Temple, St Joes, and Lasalle ( thus guaranteeing we would never win a conference championship). Most seasons we were around .500, and iirc things stayed that way till Charlie Woollum came and discovered winning.
