Ivy Hoops' evaluation of Columbia shown below certainly seems reasonable to me, except that some of us strongly believe that the Lions already have the talent to correct the deficiencies mentioned in the article, but for whatever reason(s) it hasn't happened yet.

"5. Columbia (1-10)

The Lions are much better than their record, having beaten the only team ranked below them in KenPom (Longwood) and showing promising flashes against Villanova, Penn State and Boston College. Columbia has blown leads of nine points or more in each of its last six games, including double-digit second-half leads against Stony Brook, Albany and UConn. Columbia simply doesn’t have the rebounding, free-throw-shooting talent or interior defense to hang onto leads against superior competition."

While I personally think Columbia's play is fairly indicative of the talent level, I think the overall point here is spot on. Columbia, just playing the way they have thus far, looks like a middle of the pack Ivy team, and could challenge for 4th. I don't think you guys have to worry about an Engles NJIT type season here, and the Lions seem like a decent bet to match last year's Ivy win total.

Princeton play over the last couple of games is a little ominous for the rest of the league -- seems like they may be getting it figured out.

Yale seems to be going the other way a bit.

It will be interesting to see if Castlin is back for the Maine game on the 30th. Smith over the last few games has been playing at a POY level. His assist to turnover ratio has been excellent and his shooting has been much improved. Meisner is going to be critically important to a winning IL record. If he can stay out of foul trouble he should be good for 12-15 points and 10+ rebounds a game. So if we have those three I think we need to get serious minutes for Faulds, Bibbs, Stefanini and Hansen. While our record is awful, we have played competitively with some very good teams.

Adlesh should, will play alot, given his 3-pt shooting, court sense. Clearly, coaches agree.

... by 2 on a last second shot to #34 RPI Middle TN State, which had just recently beaten two SEC teams. Tigers looked sharp against well-coached team that has made noise in the NCAAs lately.

In the power rankings I am inclined to move Harvard down to 3 or 4 after last night’s loss. I realize that Aitken was missing, but I have to wonder about whether this Harvard team is less than the sum of its parts.

All that talent at Harvard and nothing to show for it? Meanwhile, the Ivy League horse race is about to begin and there is no clear favorite in a very mediocre field. All the horses and their jockeys have been unimpressive thus far. Imagine if Jack Rohan or Tom Penders were still around Morningside Heights. We would probably be the favorite. All will be forgiven, however, if the Lions make the Ivy League Playoffs in March. I'm very anxious to party in Philly.

Fireside chat with the coaches. I'll be out of the country, but I wonder who's going and if they would be so kind as to report back???
