The team is going to Italy in May for 2 weeks and will play a few games against Italian opponents TBD.
It will be a great time for the team to take a look at rotation possibilities for next year. Eddie, Jelani, Jarrod along with Tyler and even Mark Jackson should get somet time. Also an opportunity to see what we have at the point to replace Darnell.
I don’t have details on the opponents or the locations (I believe Rome is part of the itinerary).

I'm going to assume the team isn't employing the Jerome Allen Travel Agency for this one.

Freely admitting this was also my reaction when I saw the combination of Italy + TBD

Didn't Jerome's team play games against Italian opponents TBD? The name sounds familiar.

FWIW, TBD is an Italy-based mobile apps developer. Maybe they field a company basketball team?

Actually it's Travel Blogger Destination (TBD) Italy.

Well, they were certainly very mobile. In the sense of, hard to track down. Which is impressive considering that was Jerome's primary assignment, and he's quite the defender.

Seems he made a fundamental defensive error and got caught watching the ball, which led to him losing his defensive assignment, who made a perfect back cut for the easy layup.

Last time in Italy the Penn group played pick-up level games with US soldiers stationed over there. Hope this time they have firm matchups with real teams before they get on the plane.

big difference--they have an AD who isn't stealing money and mailing it in. Or a coach who has no clue.

Come on y'all. Are we supposed to believe that these trips are more than a just boondoggle and recruiting ploy? Are we supposed to believe that we would have had a more successful season had Jerome been able to arrange a truly challenging schedule? That being I said, we can probably accomplish both... a boondoggle and a challenging schedule, but still...

I don't understand your point? Assuming that the trips are recruit oriented, and have a benefit in team togetherness if not actual play (it is extra scrimmaging), should we accept negligent planning that got the team to Europe with no arrangements?

Yes, but you are saying the taking of such a trip is a boondoggle, not that the negligent arranging of that trip is a boondoggle. It's the latter that was disgraceful and made us look really bad.

P38... "Made us look bad"? To whom? Seven people on this board? Do you know someone at that team that came out of that experience feeling duped by the scheduling (or lack of)? Do you think that the team would have played any better that year had they played actual talent in Italy?
Again, I re-iterate that Penn Men's Basketball should be able to do both (enjoy Italy and schedule quality competition), but in the general scheme of things does it really matter that you were embarrassed?

Well, I've said that to you many times about our political discussions (does it really matter to anyone what we say).
But simply as a business, our Athletic Dept under Bilsky was an embarrassment in his later years--this situation being just one of many screw-ups. I still wonder why he disappeared as Big 5 Director.

A little more about the teams, courtesy of the Internet:
Stella Azzurra Roma is located in northern Rome and plays in Serie B Basket, which is the semi-pro third tier of Italian basketball. The club dates back to 1938 and has several youth divisions including a U20. Their website is: http://www.stellazzurra.it/ and they have a YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/StellaAzzurraRom a/vid...
Bernaraeggio99 is located northeast of Milan, and also plays in Serie B Basket. Their website is: http://www.bernareggio99.it and they also have a YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXsPxVpfGwFn 9Dln7...
Novara Borgomanero is located in Northern Italy between Turin and Milan. I couldn't find much on them. I believe they play in what's called Serie C Regionale, which is the 5th tier of Italian basketball.

Any word on if some of the injured frosh plan to play on this trip? That would make it fairly interesting.
