The degree to which things have changed in college BB is well demonstrated by goings on at Michigan. Jett Howard, the younger son of Michigan coach Juwan Howard, has decided to be a one and done and has declared for the NBA draft. Not only does his dad coach his team but his older brother is also on the team. And, obviously, there are no financial hardship issues. Then, after three years of All American play, Hunter Dickinson has out of the blue decided to enter the transfer portal.
The Detroit papers cover Michigan quite extensively. There have not been even any suggestions of any kind of discord or anything weird on the team, and Juwan is reputed to be a popular coach.

I don't know, your all american center leaving your team seems like a sign of something, and not something good.

Right. He’d fit Donahue’s offense perfectly too. Though I suppose he fits anyone’s offense.

Why not? We are taking the occasional football transfer now (Stenstrom for example).

Dickinson just completed his junior season. Assuming he's academically a junior, don't most of the Ivies limit incoming transfers to students who have completed only their first or second undergraduate years? I don't recall ever seeing an incoming athlete transfer into an Ivy school with just one season of eligibility remaining.

That could explain things. I am not conversant with the ivy transfer rules.

According to The Athletic Dickinson will be a grad transfer, meaning he's ineligible to play in the IL.

That's what I figured the likely outcome might be. I think a good number of power conference schools (the ones which care about the academic success of their athletes, at least) use summer sessions to help their athletes balance their in-season workloads.
