Penn 2023 grads Faye Parker (Richmond) and Kayla Padilla (USC) both secured tournament invites in winning their conference tournaments on Sunday.

Good for them that they were able to benefit from the idiotic Ivy rules that would not let them compete for a fourth year at Penn.

Oh, don't forget about the idiotic Ivy rule that canceled their sophomore season altogether.

Apparently you and Mr. Chop didn’t lose any close friends or family to COVID.

I did.
But I also noticed 340+ other basketball programs play that year.

There was no evidence that young, healthy athletes were vulnerable to COVID,

Oh, I see. They would have played to empty arenas?
I knew of three otherwise healthy young adults who succumbed to COVID in its early days. The virus apparently didn’t ask how old they were or whom they hung out with.

What was the casualty rate among the 300+ programs that kept going. Just in Div 1 that would be about five thousand young people. I read of no deaths in that cohort.

The virus apparently didn’t ask how old they were or whom they hung out with.
Or did it? We were told it was safe for gatherings of up to 10 people, but the virus apparently knew when that 11th person showed up. And the games could have been played during the day, since apparently the virus was most dangerous at night. Isn't that why businesses had to close by 5:30?
While I understand how deadly Covid was back in 2020, before we were prepared to treat it, the leagues and teams had precautions in place for the 2021 season. And as UPIA1968 mentioned, I also read of no deaths among the college basketball programs which played that season.

We didn’t know then what we know now. Given the severity of the threat, I am glad that the Ivies opted for caution. As a fan I missed Ivy sports as much as anyone. We did not have the question of $ as did the Big 10 that initially leaned toward caution and then caved. I respect the Ivies for their priorities.
