im keeping a list of recruits for bucknell (and the rest of the patriot league) this year and just came across thing number 3891 you would have never seen prior to scholarships:
a top 100 calibre recruit considering the bison. its almost as pretty as the (25) beside our name.
http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=44721
i know most of the names being thrown around at our level will end up somewhere else (with commits coming out of nowhere), but im interested to see just where they end up.
i will post my current list for bucknell in about an hour. if anyone stumbles across a name, feel free to post it here.

how do you conclude he is a top 100 caliber recruit?
the list of schools for quite a few of these prospects puts us in new territory.
Greissing is probably more representative of talent level we have landed in recent years, but his dad (who is also his aau coach) seems to be pushing Richmond pretty hard.

You get the impression that these guys have heard of BU because of what has happened over the last two years. Looking at the schools they are interested in further leads one to believe they are not all BU caliber students. For example nobody who is a BU caliber student would be considering going to St. Johns purely based on academics.

first, my 'top 100 calibre' comment originates from both his hoopscoop ranking (132) and the opinions of some that hes a top 10 player in georgia, which traditionally produces a LOT of basketball talent.
as for the schools some people are considering, most bu students arent being asked to give up the the chance to play big east basketball. combine that with the average pl basketball player being a lesser student than the average non-athlete and im not at all worried about south florida on st johns being on anyones list. in fact, im quite happy about it. given our limited ability to recruit (both financially and because of academics) we need to be in the minds of as many propective athletes as possible.

another potential (but unlikely) 2007 name...
c orlando allen: http://bearcatnews.com/recruiting/bio/286/
also came across this gem from patriotleaguehoops.com on our 2007 class:
One real good recruit from OK, a sketchy German who might pan out, and a couple of no-names. Not bad for the first pseudo-scholarship year, not great either. Another PR error: did they have to mention Badmus made FOURTH team all-state? Who goes all the way to four teams, anyway?

I wonder if Matt B , in hindsight, would change his review of the first Bison recruiting class at all. Matt's "real good recruit" unfortunately has had to stop playing; the "sketchy German" has made first-team All-Pl two straight years; one of the two "no-names" won a PL defensive player of the year award and has become a great point guard; and the other "no-name" was the PL's best sixth man this year and led the league in rebounds per minute. This so-so recruiting class has turned out to be one of the best in the PL in recent years.

Hi.
Of course I would change my mind. But at the time I was right. No one had heard of McNaughton, and c'mon, Fourth Team? If we gave out all-fourth team rankings in the PL, half the starters in the league would be included.
The German panned out, which turned it from an OK recuriting class to a great one. Not sure I remember any of you predicting McNaughton to be what he was any sooner than I did...

i think there are a few more than eight high schools in illinois. anyway, i just thought it was cute... and gave pretty good context as to how unpredictable the recruiting game is at this level.
anyway, we have another new name:
sg blake hoffarber: http://www.bwi.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=30914
this is much more fun than it would have been two years ago since, well, we are actually finding ourselves on peoples lists.

when you think about it, fourth team in means top 20 player (of course positions somewhat determine the teams) a top 20 player in a populous state such as Illinois, New York, or California with a lot a hoop recruits isn't that bad.

Hoffarber 06-06-06 03:10 PM - Post#19077
In response to BuckWild
An excerpt from Rivals about Hoffarber. Looks like we could end up going head to head with Skip Prosser. Or if Prosser decides Hoffarber's not quite an ACC player, maybe he can steer him to the Bison.
"Things are really picking up for me as far as my recruitment goes," said Hoffarber. "I have scholarship offers from Loyola-Chicago, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Delaware, William & Mary, Albany, Rice, Furman and Bucknell. I have also received phone calls from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Kansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame and Wake Forest.
"I am really wide-open right now and I am just going to keep looking around at all of my options," he added. "I just want to see where I fit in best and what schools are serious about recruiting me. I don't have any leaders right now."
Prior to participating in the Tournament of Champions, Hoffarber took an unofficial visit to Wake Forest. According to the talented sharpshooter, it was a great experience to spend a little time with the coaching staff. Hoffarber also enjoyed being able to get a closer look at the campus.
"I visited Wake Forest the day before the Tournament of Champions got started," said Hoffarber. "I was able to meet with Coach Skip Prosser and we had a great time together. I liked what I saw and really loved the campus. Everything about the trip was just great. It was an awesome experience.
"Coach Prosser told me that he wanted to watch me again in July," he added. "I believe that Wake Forest is very interested in me, but they want to watch me play again. All of the schools recruiting me that have not offered are planning to watch me in July. That is going to be a big month for me."

Hoffarber an ESPY winner 06-06-06 03:23 PM - Post#19078
In response to Bison137
One thing Hoffarber and the Bison have in common - they both won ESPY's last year. Hoffarber won his for the "best play" of the year, one many of you will remember having seen on ESPN. Their description of it: " With time running out in overtime in the Minnesota Class 4A state title game, Blake Hoffarber -- lying flat on his back across the 3-pt. line -- sank a shot to tie the game and force a second OT. Hoffarber's Hopkins High School Royals won the game 71-60."
The ESPY list from last year (note the adjacent listings for "best play" and "best upset":
BEST FEMALE ATHLETE: Annika Sorenstam, Golf BEST MALE ATHLETE: Lance Armstrong, Cycling BEST TEAM: Boston Red Sox BEST COACH/MANAGER: Bill Belichick, New England Patriots BEST GAME: ALCS Game 5 Yankees-Red Sox BEST CHAMPIONSHIP PERFORMANCE: Curt Schilling 3-1 in the post-season with surgically repaired right ankle BEST MALE OLYMPIC PERFORMANCE: Michael Phelps, Swimming BEST FEMALE OLYMPIC PERFORMANCE: Team USA Softball BEST MOMENT: Reggie Miller's final game BEST PLAY: Blake Hoffarber's last second 3-pointer from flat on his back BEST UPSET: Bucknell vs. Kansas #14 seed beats #3 seed in first round of NCAA tournament BEST COMEBACK: Mark Fields, Carolina Panthers selected for Pro Bowl after missing a season battling cancer BEST BREAKTHROUGH: Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat BEST RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCE: Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts 49 touchdown passes in a single season
