Random question that I have been wondering for a while...Why is it that whenever Bucknell is on TV they replace the normal center court Bison logo with the bigger blue circle logo with "Welcome to Bucknell University" around the perimeter? Obviously, the main driver is because the normal logo faces away from the TV cameras, so they replace it with the blue logo to face the cameras (I guess they weren't expecting a lot of TV games when they installed the court!). However, my question is why not either permanently keep the blue circle logo or just rotate the normal Bison logo so it permanently faces the TV cameras. I am guessing the wood wouldn't fit together properly for the latter. My only guesses on why they wouldn't permanently keep the blue circle is that they either fear it getting too scuffed up or want the normal logo so it faces the Bison Vision camera. Anyone know?

Or coming at it from a different angle, why not change the way the floor logo faces and move the Bison Vision camera to the same side that Birdsong is on.

the logo was placed on the floor facing the "prsident's box" which is located behind the benches. it wasn't until after the floor was in place that they realized the mistake. the cost of refinishing the floor and changing the center court logo is not quite worth it for the 2/3 national tv games per year. you are correct about the logo getting scuffed as well. they try to lay it down the night before games after the team(s) have practiced. this is just opinion but i bet they don't care about the logo in relation to teh Bison Vision cameras.

And, tonight, we had the Bison logo facing the wrong way, but added text regarding the 2012 Patriot League Tournament that faced the right way...

After the conversation on the logo this week, I laughed when I saw that. The PL Tourney text REALLY made the bison look upside down.

Just what is the right or wrong way? I believe the Bison logo is the right way from where I sit. I read the other stuff easily from a career of reading things upside down on my boss's desk

The "right" way would be the way facing the TV cameras or the way facing the press row. And yeah, it just looked silly tonight.

LOL. I saw the upside-down logo and immediately thought of this thread. Having the logo upside down but with the new text seemed really weird.
When ESPN came to Davis Gym for the '93 Final, they also faced the opposite way of the logo -- the scores table/benches faced the logo.

I always noticed that the main logo facde the opposite way of TV cameras so that it would be upside down (on TV). So when ESPN and later CBS started doing games I realized that the logo which was right side up had to be a cover-up. But I never even noticed the PL Championship script on the floor for the LC game until I read it on this thread. Went back and looked at the replay, and sure enough, there it was and it really looked stupid.
I am guessing that the Pl mandated the script. The logo that they put down for Tv happens to be considerably larger than the logo that is painted on the floor, and would cover up the PL Championship script. So I am guessing that somebody did not plan ahead and allow room to place the cover up national Tv logo, so rather than cover the PL script they stuck with the old logo.
How difficult can it be to just change the direction of the logo permanently? They change the floor stenciling on a pretty regular basis.

it is much more expensive than you think and it would entail a full resurfacing and repainting of the floor. Additionally, there have been no major changes to the stenciling other than additions of the new 3 point line and the charge arc. it's also a lot easier to add than to take it away.
