He is an excellent player. Very deserving of the award.

Hard to beat his effort, consistency, and results in scoring and rebounding. His impact on every game is very high. One of the most versatile players if not the most versatile in the league. And he gets his numbers double and triple teamed every game. He'd get my POY vote!

POY candidate this year?
Probably not with Dartmouth's record.
Hopefully first-team All Ivy, and then perhaps POY later when the team has more wins.

Has there ever been a POY from a team in the lower have of league standings?

Barnett got POY when Dartmouth finished tied for fourth in 2008-09. Ditto for Austin for Columbia in 2000-01. Those are the only two coming to mind, but I really didn't start paying attention to these things until the 1990s.
Happened a few times in football. Including Dartmouth's Orimolade this past season.

For Dartmouth, they have had two Players of The Year. Haven't researched other schools.
80-81 season Larry Lawrence was POY. Team was 10-16 overall, 3-11 in the Ivy League.
08-09 season Alex Barnett was POY. Team was 9-19 overall, 7-7 in the Ivy League (4th place)
I am sure its happened many other times across the league. If they are voting based on overall league impact (not many teams have/can shut him down) and 10 double/doubles already and his compelling stats (#2 in scoring and #1 in rebounding), Evan has a very good chance at POY. If the voters(coaches) take into account the team performance (I believe its an individual "best player" award and not a team award, so I don't know why they would) then his chances are diminished.

Well, it's way too early for a POY discussion, but I think Spieth's stats compare favorably, over all.
