Columbia comes out strong thanks to some great playing by the Big Three and Lukas Meisner and takes a 14 point lead over Yale. However, for whatever reason, Coach Engles pulls Meisner and Hickman and replaces them with McComber and Coby and Yale quickly cuts the lead down to 3 at halftime. Why the coach is using McComber who hasn't rebounded in four years and only scored a few points all season is beyond me. Where is Luke Petrasek? Please use Meisner and the well rested Luke Petrasek in the second half.

We come back to tie it 71-71 and lose 75-71. Voss' best game ever, complete with hook shots, blocks, and rebounds, but Petrasek was AWOL early and ended with just 10 points. Meisner with 14, Smith with 13; otherwise the offense was, except for a brief streak in first half, scattered and inadequate.

Remarkably, Cornell beats Brown, Penn beats Harvard, and we end 11-16 by losing 7 of our last 8. I think we'll be better next year--possibly even much better, but it is still a very disappointing way to end the season.

Terrible way to the end the season. I feel bad for the players. They race out to a 14 point lead over Yale early in the first half only to have the Columbia coaching staff undermine their effort by making multiple substitutions which ended their momentum. Why the coaches would bench Petrasek and Meisner for so many minutes in the first half is baffling. I have tried to be supportive of the coaching staff throughout the season, but this one really hurts. Columbia had Yale on the ropes early, but instead of going for the knockout punch with the starting five the coaches once again inexplicably went deep into the bench.

11-16 is, not so incidentally, our worst record since 2010. But 70% of team minutes are coming back, and ESPN's top ranked IL recruit is replacing our one star player.

A lot of that is just style of play. Yale gets to the line pretty well and is very good at not fouling. Averaged about 8 more FTAs per game than Ivy opponents. Columbia, on the other hand, allows opponents to get to the line more.
