There has been a lot on the Harvard Board about Georgetown's search and whether Amaker was a part of it. I thought I'd raise one parallel with Penn. I wonder if they are setting themselves up for a Jerome Allen situation - what do you do when your school's hero may not be the right long term coach?
I think Ewing will be better than most people think. The question is whether he'll be good enough, though. He needs to be great to stick long term.

One significant way in which Ewing's situation differs is that he has 15 years' experience as an NBA assistant coach.

yeah, ewing may fail miserably, he's never had to "recruit" but his qualifications are about a billion times greater than Jerome's

True. Coaching is an incredibly tough profession with a mix of tactics, recruiting, leadership, team building, executive skill and hard work. Not everyone can succeed and not everyone can succeed in all situations. It takes a lot of skills to come together in a system, which is why Jerome would have benefited from an apprenticeship - the kind he is getting now.
I couldn't tell directly, but he seemed to have issues in executive skill (Italy trip), tactics (atrocious D and clueless offense), and recruiting (getting a solid PG). There were positive glimmers in each area, but overall a sad outcome.
Still, he's a hero to me as a player and human. Hoping for better coaching days ahead for him.

Three Ivy football teams are currently being coached by alums, for whatever that is worth...
