Who is going to the Tip-Off Reception tonight? For $8 all you can eat/drink at the Towne Tavern, I hope that EVERYBODY who lives in Lewisburg tries to go!

Please let us know what the coaches and players say.

I'm planning on going tonight and will give an update! The reception seems to be well-attended and the Towne Tavern gets packed in pretty good. I'm going to go early, get whatever they are serving, and then belly up to the bar and perhaps meet and greet who knows. I'm hoping to win a door prize/parting gift but no enthusiasm or expectations this year. I give an update if I'm not too tipsy to write about the tip-off!

I did go to the reception. The usual suspects were there-Newcombe, Birdsong, Pavlechco, Big Al, etc. The asst. coaches were there including Griffin who worked the room and others. Nate Davis came and brought the seniors Zach Thomas and Steven Brown, Nana had another commitment he couldn't make it.
In Nate Davis form, it was a little low key and subdued. I was looking for a little enthusiasm but all I got was a gray haired gentrified group of golf-clapping seniors and the younger folks were quiet couples. The only student that came got kicked out because of his fake ID. Zach Thomas and Steven Brown awkwardly got some dinner and sat down in the midst of the seniors and they must have already gone to and passed the wine, dine, and act fine class because they were very calm and polite.
Essentially the tough OOC schedule is so Davis can more easily pick out our teams weaknesses so he can work on them for league play. He basically said the game is up to the players and practice is to go through all the scenarios in the game and he is there during the game to help out how he can. He basically said North Carolina and Maryland may beat us because they have higher caliber players but they will not be out coached. He said Bucknell's strength is their competitiveness. Also, he said the freshman Paul Newman is going to be good and he is a top offensive rebounder.
I didn't get a good vibe about the team at all. After Towson and the reception, we are sitting at 0-2.
I am 12th man on the giveaway team. No parting gifts coming my way and the top guys are getting the assists. Newcombe was pushing the Monmouth bus trip. I just may go and encourage everyone including the students to fill it up. We need a turnaround here.

A little inside scoop on recruiting. I was told this evening that we are in the running for a BIG from the DC area and appears to be a good chance on him. Also the Maxwell kid from Abington Heights. They are still holding hope for either Davis or Seymor. I was told tonight that Butler is now involved with Davis. And lastly Bucknell expects one or two to sign in the next couple of weeks.

That’s exciting news.

The program is on solid footing and Coach Davis will be in demand soon. Are this year’s sophomores his first class?

This year's sophs are his first class. Imo I don't see ND as being in big demand by programs like the better A-10 schools until he has proven himself more as a recruiter. In his first class - the only one to play a game thus far - he landed two players who have shown they can play and who might be All-PL candidates down the road - but not yet. The current freshmen look promising - but we don't know yet. And this year's recruiting effort is not going as well as we would have liked, although one commitment from the few offers still out there could turn it around.

But thus far no Chris McNaughton, or Charles Lee, or Mike Muscala, or Cam Ayers, or Nana Foulland. He might have to land a player of that caliber to really get on the radar screen for a big jump up in job level and pay. I'm not sure that ND would want to leave Bucknell and Lewisburg - with its cheap cost of living and great environment to raise kids - to take a minor step up the ladder, say to the CAA or a weaker MAC program.

I believe O'Reilly is also a coach Davis player since he signed in the spring of 2015.

Thanks for that analysis 137. It will be interesting to see how Avi and Bruce progress this year after a full offseason in the gym. I think they both have high ceilings. For Avi to start at guard as a freshmen on this team speaks to his defensive prowess. If he improves his scoring I see all PL accolades in his future.
