Maybe, but we are such a bipolar team. Let's just hope last Saturday's experience of playing good basketball was sufficiently instructive that it carries over to this weekend, in which event we should defeat two teams to whom we lost narrowly on the road.

we'll be lucky to beat brown today, yale is a long shot with makai mason back, I'm hoping for 1-1 and preparing for 0-2

It's certainly chastening how often I have been wrong about these predictions. But FWIW, KenPom has us beating Brown by 6 (71%), and Yale by 2 (55%), though the latter may not give sufficient weight to Mason's return to the lineup.

It all depends on what team shows up for us. If it is the team that beat Harvard then we will win both games.

So the Ivy Network broadcast is blacked out in NYC for a nonexistent SNY cablecast, and Columbia's website has no contact info to get them to correct it. I was looking forward to watching the game.

Great win, 89-82. Even though our shooting was off for long stretches we raced to a nice lead in the second half and hung on. One of Smith’s best games. And Hickman played his best game. Engles did not let the game slip away by pressing all the right buttons over crunch time..

The ILDN worked fairly well for me until the last couple of minutes. I saw the sign in/subscribe screen 3 times.

KCR supplied the final seconds.

PS, nice gesture by Mike Martin in taking a moment to wish the two Columbia seniors well in the post game handshakes.

We got to and crushed it at the charity stripe a ton. It was a lucky break.

Stefanini showed a lot of poise for a first year as well. We had a 15 point lead with around 7 minutes to go. We tried to work the ball deep into the shot clock. Brown was pretty much forced to start fouling with around 6 minutes to go. Everybody who was on the floor for us was a good foul shooter. Brown’s #25, a first year front court player, was on the verge of starting a brawl in a scrum for a loose ball but cooler heads prevailed.

Very nice win with Hickman and Stefanini giving us the lead and then Smith, Castlin and Adlesh helping us hold on. We had some difficulty passing the ball inside that led to several turnovers. Overall, however, our three bigs were better than their Brown counterparts. Cambridge kept Brown in the game which was not unexpected considering how good a player he is. Engles made all the right calls from the sidelines. Columbia fans need to come out in force tomorrow night for the Yale game, which could be decided by the refs. A win over Yale should send the Lions on their way to the Ivy League Tournament!

Actually, we did a fairly good job on Cambridge: he was 2-5 on 2s and 3-9 on 3s. Half of his points were the 13-17 he shot from the FT line.

Overall, it was a workman-like performance--barren stretches interspersed with just enough good shooting to get and maintain the lead. We are fortunate to have enough good players so we can shuffle them in and out when there are so many fouls. I wish that Tape and Faulds were better offensively, but they absorbed some fouls and blocked some shots when they needed to.

Now, if Brown can just beat Cornell, and we can squeeze by Yale, we'd have a pretty clear shot on the tournament.

Felt like the Lions should have been down by 6 but closed up by 3 at the half, then went on a nice run in the first 10 minutes after the break to jump out by 15. Big difference is they got to the rim and that led to layups or fouls, getting to the line 14 more times as the Bears settled for a lot of off balance jumpers. Great game by Smith, he’s fun to watch.

So far so good. The offense is really starting to click. It was nice to see Hickman making a solid contribution.

The Lions are in sole possession of 4th place in the standings, and according to ESPN, we currently have a 55% chance of beating Yale tonight and a 54% chance of beating Dartmouth on the road next week.

I'm looking forward to pizza at V&T's tonight, followed by the most important game of the Engles era to date. Go Lions!

Wow, V&T's is still there? That was a go to place in law school, c. 1980-'82. All the other places (such as the West End, Third Phase and many others like the great Cuban-Chinese place on 108th and B'Way) are gone.

Good win for CU last night--win tonight and you'll be at the Palestra in 2 weeks

Murph's right--this is the biggest game of the Engels era and then some. Hope Lion fans come in force tonight. The Columbia-Yale sports rivalry is becoming very interesting with Columbia and Yale fighting for championships in football, baseball and now possibly basketball.
