Per a tweet from her HS coach, Marly Walls, a 5-4 CG from Kentucky, has committed to the Bison. Walls averaged about 19 ppg as a junior, while shooting 39% on threes and 52% on twos, for a medium-sized school that went 30-4 overall. Her team won the regional championship, and she was on the All-Region team, before losing badly in the Kentucky Sweet 16.

Btw, it had been reported by a scouting site based in South NJ that Taylor O'Brien, a very good wing, had committed to the Bison a couple of months ago. The report - actually two different tweets - was made directly from a Philly all-star game that O'Brien was playing in, so it seemed to have credibility. However there have been no other reports of this commitment, and I am now skeptical.

Walls junior year highlight video:

http://www.hudl.com/video/3/7078739/5845e 55d5b3cd9...

The second half of the video (starting at 2:54) is mostly from the Regional Championship game, played in front of a big crowd on a neutral court. Walls ended up with 32 points, including a half court shot to end the first half, in a 69-56 win. Also 5 steals. This part of the video is a good chance to see her against good competition - an Elizabethtown team that had won the Region the previous three years.

I see that some recent articles/rankings list her as being as tall as 5-7, so that height may be outdated.

She is one of the most highly touted players the women's program has ever signed. Also a tremendous track athlete.

I think she'll fit in nicely at Bucknell.

Three things never to underestimate in Kentucky:

Barrel strength bourbon
Basketball players
Horses

Walls has exploded in the past week:

1. Had 33 points and 12 rebounds in a win over the #5 team in their region.

2. Beat the #4 team in their region. Walls had 27 points.

3. Had 29 points and 11 rebounds in a close loss to one of Kentucky's top teams.

4. Had 19 points in a 66-45 win.

5. Had 28 points, 14 steals and 8 rebounds in a 63-54 win over an 18-5 team that was ranked 4th in a different region.

14 steals is a ridiculous amount. Either she picked the pocket of the PG repeatedly, or knew what play was coming more often than not. That's probably 1/4 of the opponents possessions which ended in her stealing the ball.

Yeah, that occurred to me. She is big for a guard and athletic, and may have gotten multiple steals off their PG. In the one video I saw it appears her team uses a fair amount of 2-2-1 full court pressure and also extends out their half court zone to look for steals. Fwiw, she averaged 4.5 steals per game last year as a junior.

The source for her 14 steals in that one game is her coach's twitter feed, so I would hope it's reliable.

Looking at the team - which is for all high schools in Kentucky - it appears Walls was the highest vote getter for the second team, just missing first team, as there is strong evidence the list is in order by number of votes. The article confirms that the player listed first was the leading vote getter. And the top four on the list are the state's four top-ranked players - committed to Kentucky, Indiana, and Louisville (2).

The player just ahead of Walls is going to Ball State btw. And the player listed in the article, who was two spots behind Walls, is a junior already committed to Kentucky.

Walls was named MVP of the West team in today's Kentucky all-star game. Had 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Unlike many all-star games, this one had almost every top player in the state - including a number of P5 conference recruits (Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville).
