For those of you who have been happy to share your "woke" status on this message board, please be aware of those fighting for justice in Portland.
Who amongst you will be bringing this battle to West Philadelphia?

Stu
Thanks for raising this but it is beyond ridiculous. We don't have to change every name in this country because some ONE is offended. So these idiots in Maine (and there are many elsewhere) are going to spend taxpayer money to choose a new name because a FEW are offended and/or want to make a constitutional issue about this or on legal fees to defend an action seeking to get the name changed.
Better they should spend their time looking at what the folks in Washington are doing to further oppress the poor - yes, that means you Ben Carson and Betsy DeVos and others.
I've had enough!

Would this apply to Penn Charter as well?

Please don't start a move to change Penn's nickname. I'm proud of the dumbest nickname in major college sports. "Fight on Quakers, Fight Fight!"

Steve, these idiots seem to be in Oregon, not Maine, though I suspect Maine has enough on there own. I think the Penn student body should start working on alternatives.

What's next? Will Providence have to stop calling their teams the Friars?

I wonder if Penn will have to drop its mascot, like Amherst dropped Lord Jeff a few years ago.
Some ideas - the Franklins, the West Philly Exploiters (to compete with La Salle's Explorers), the Quackers (to the Princeton board's delight), or just stick with the Red & Blue (as the entire league will just end up using their school colors after animal rights groups take on Yale, Princeton, Brown and Columbia).

The Quakers seems ok to me. Maybe just because I'm used to it. I might have a problem with the Catholics or the Jews.

Do the Quakers find it insulting? I always thought it was intended as a tribute to the rather than something demeaning. Then again, I never understood why we were the Quakers in the first place.
maybe we could really confuse everyone by becoming the Nittany Lions.

I think if we are changing the mascot, we should consider the cost and the desire to make our symbol more intimidating while recognizing our current standard bearer. Hence, I would first try to use our Quaker head with only a small modification. With that in mind, I would go with the Comb Overs. A simple replacement of the hat with readily available wigs would do the trick. Further, we could accessorize the mascot with a red baseball cap that says make Penn Great Again.

I like where you're going. We'd be a natural destination for Comb-O guards. We could be Orangemen - wait, that's taken.

Please don't start a move to change Penn's nickname. I'm proud of the dumbest nickname in major college sports. "Fight on Quakers, Fight Fight!"
And yet “Quakers†appears nowhere in the lyrics of “Fight On, Pennsylvania.†(As we know, it’s “fight, fight, fight Penn-syl-vane-Eye-Ah, fight on, for Penn.â€)
Which hasn’t stopped the Penn Band from introducing itself for decades as (in part) “The Oxymoronic Fighting Quaker Marching Band.â€

There was point in Penn's history where it was considering jumping from Quakers, to Penguins ("Penn-go-win..").
In 1928 Dave Zoob (who wrote Fight On Pennsylvania) and university recorder George Nitzche published a new mascot song call "Penn-go-in - University of Pennsylvania Band March and Mascot Song." Ultimately the attempt failed miserably and the song renamed "Dear Old Penn."
We still have the song in the band library if push comes to shove...

"Dear Old Penn."
Maybe we should be the Deer, as in "Here's a toast to Deer, old Penn"
