Coach Meehan will be leading a GSA European trip again this year. Sotos and Sechan are both playing on the team which will travel to Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Mostly D2 and D3 players besides them, incuding one of Sotos' brothers.

summer vacation will conclude with a Bucknell team trip to Europe in August. first time they will do the trip at the end of summer which makes incoming freshman eligible if they attended summer school (B137 correct or clarify rules as necessary).

That was the rule about incoming freshmen prior to this year due to a special clause that applied only to basketball:
"17.29.1.4.1.1 Exception—Basketball. In basketball, it is permissible for an incoming student athlete (freshman or transfer) to represent the institution on a foreign tour that occurs during the summer prior to his or her initial full-time enrollment at the certifying institution and participate in practice prior to departure for the foreign tour provided the following conditions are met: (Adopted: 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10) (a) He or she has earned at least three hours of acceptable degree credit (toward any of the institution’s degree programs) during the summer term at the certifying institution;"
However I see that the 2017-18 bylaws have removed that clause, which presumably means that incoming freshmen can now participate as long as they are eligible to play in the fall semester. Here is the full rule that is in the new bylaws:
". It is permissible for an incoming student-athlete (freshman or transfer) to represent the institution on a foreign tour that occurs during the summer prior to his or her initial full-time enrollment at the certifying institution and participate in practice conducted in preparation for the foreign tour, provided he or she is eligible to represent the institution in intercollegiate competition during the academic year immediately following the tour."

Lafayette is going on a Euro trip this month. according to aricle on their website neither graduating seniors nor incoming frosh are eligible due to ncaa rules

perhaps too early for incoming frosh?, but seems difficult to believe for the graduating seniors as well then.

As I read the rules, the graduating seniors cannot play because players must be eligible to play for the school in the upcoming season. However, looking at the rule change that was implemented last May, I am fairly sure that incoming freshmen are now eligible. Read the rule I quoted above. It applies to "summer" tours - but the rule refers to summer being " between the institution’s spring and fall term".
Based on the above, I think their incoming freshmen are likely technically eligible - but it would be an issue pulling them out of their high school in the last few weeks of senior year. A bigger question is why, given the rule change, didn't LC schedule the tour for August and take the incoming freshmen. Money?

I always thought these trips must be a unique way for the players to bond.
