Over on the Lehigh Board, RichH posted that Athlon has the following preseason rankings for the PL:
1. Lehigh
2. Bucknell
3. Boston University
4. Colgate
5. Holy Cross
6. Army
7. American
8. Lafayette
9. Navy
10. Loyola
BTW, I looked for a website but could not find one. Maybe, it is print publication only. If anybody finds a site, please post it.
I feel very good with the Bison losing so much talent but still being ranked this high. On the other hand, the HC faithful are not happy at all that they are returning most of their minutes and points but ranked so low. http://crossports.freeforums.net/thread/2946/athlo...

Any updates on Holy Cross's "rumored" discipline issues?

No way will we be behind Lehigh in the reg season standings. Of course anything can happen in the tournament.

2018-2019 PL Preseason Rankings 09-25-18 04:39 PM - Post#261603
In response to jkrun80
Blue Ribbon is the best college yearbook, by far, but is only available by subscription. The PL write-up, btw, is always done by Hooptime. Having said that, I find the pick of Navy for 4th place to be bizarre. They lost three starters, including a 1st team All-PL player from last year. Most people, including me, have them finishing 8th or 9th.
The Blue Ribbon predictions:
1 Colgate
2 Lehgih
3 Bucknell
4 Navy
5 Boston
6 Holy Cross
7 Army
8 Lafayette
9 American
10 Loyola
Their picks for 1st team All-PL are: Will Rayman, Jehyve Floyd, Kimbal Mackenzie, Lance Tejada, and Sa'ed Nelson. Rayman picked for POY and Nic Lynch, the big Lehigh center, FOY.

I hope you're right, but I think Lehigh has the most returning talent by a fair amount. Hopefully Brett Reed will work his coaching magic.

Nothing new, but the issues are far more than rumors. Three players from last year - Karl Charles, Jack Stevens, and a walk-on, were thrown off the team late in the season and possibly out of school. The rumors were about the reason. Charles was a significant loss, having started virtually every game since he arrived at HC. Stevens, however, was never going to play.

Putting the three publications together, you get this:
1 Lehigh 1.33 average
2 Colgate 2.33
3 Bucknell 3.0
4 Boston 3.67
5 Holy Cross 5.33
6 Army 6.33
7 Navy 7.33
8 American 7.67
9 Lafayette 8.0
10 Loyola 10.0
Seems pretty reasonable - except for Navy being ahead of American, because of the Blue Ribbon prediction. If healthy, American looks better than Navy on paper.

As I mentioned above, Blue Ribbon is a great publication - over 400 pages and intensive write-ups on every team. Also every coach is interviewed as part of the analysis. I definitely recommend it.
There are some interesting comments, including some quotes from Nathan Davis, in their Bucknell write-up. Some excerpts:
- ND: "We should have a number of guys who score between eight and 14 points per game. It's going to be exciting. Our pieces fit together nicely."
- ND: "Bruce is athletic enough to guard every position . . . but he is best at the four. He had to play the three for us much of last season. He will be more effective playing his natural position. . . . He actually has a pretty good post game. You will see more of that from Bruce this year."
- ND: " Nate Sestina is really, really good. He is going to get a chance to showcase what he is capable of doing. He is very, very skilled."
- "Sestina is an above-the-rim type player with strong post moves with either hand. Bucknell's football staff tells Davis that Sestina's size and athleticism would make him an NFL prospect if he changed sports."
- ND: " Kimbal could have been the best shooting guard in the league last season had he not been hurt. He has a chance to have a very special year."
- ND: " Andrew Funk is not a good, but a great shooter, and a good defensive player. I think he is the best player coming into the league. But we will have to see how he fits in. He will have to earn it."
- "Newman reported out of shape as a freshman, setting him back from the start. By the end of the season, though, he was giving Foulland fits with his physical defensive presence in the post. AFter dropping 15 pounds while simultaneously getting stronger in the weight room, Davis expects Newman to come into his own and contribute defense and rebounding off the bench."

I agree with Coach Davis about the make up of our team. Lot's of potential, especially if the mesh well together.
That said, I'm fine with Lehigh and/or Colgate being picked ahead of us. I have no doubt Brett Reed will "work his coaching magic." LOL

That's Dr. Brett Reed, fellows; a Ph.D. in instructional technology with a "cognate in sports administration".

Here is a good piece by a Boston U writer. I think his prediction of the PL finish is very reasonable. About the only mistakes/omissions are the failure to mention LU's Jordan Cohen, who I think will start at PG, and not knowing the difference between parity and parody.
