I think this deserves its own thread:

Cecchini named head football coach

As I mentioned in the Susan thread, Checchini didn't have a great record at Valpo, but Valpo had only beaten one team (Campbell) in the four years prior to Cecchini's arrival. And they had lost to multiple D2/D3 teams. It might have been the toughest D1 job in the nation.

He had a great reputation as Lehigh's offensive coordinator (and also as the OC for Harvard and the Citadel. May turn out to be a very good hire - if Bucknell gives him any support.

A few items from Cecchini's resume:

• Assistant at Lehigh 1995-2002; last two years was OC.
• Offensive Coordinator at Harvard 2003-06
• Offensive Coordinator at the Citadel 2007-09
• Offensive Coordinator at Lehigh 2010-13
• Head Coach at Valparaiso 2014-18
• Finalist for FCS Coach of the Year in 2017
• Valpo’s 2017 offense averaged 30 ppg and 400 ypg.
• In four years as Lehigh’s OC, they went 39-9, including a year when they averaged 470 ypg.
• During his first year as Citadel OC, they set 16 school records and averaged 40 ppg.
• In his first year as Harvard OC, they averaged 461 ypg.
• Won award as top Assistant Coach nationally after the 2005 season.
• During playing career for Lehigh, he made 1st Team All-American while leading the nation in receptions and yards per game.
• Cecchini held the PL record for receptions (88), receiving yards, and TD’s.

As stated, "if they (Bucknell) give him any support"?

Like to hear some predictions as to just how much support we may expect Bucknell to give him? If they do what they've done for past several coaches, he'll have to be a genius to post any winning records at Bucknell, no?

He will certainly have to be good. If nothing else, I expect him to be a significant upgrade over the past two head coaches. He may not be another Tom Gadd, who might have been the best coach in patriot league history, but Gadd had far less support then the Bison coaches have had over the past seven years. Gadd also had FAR less support then the other patriot league contenders of his era.

Looks like Valpo will have two vacancies to fill: His wife was/is head women's tennis coach there.

A couple of nice tweets from players he once coached:

1.Andre Roberts (All-Pro KR/WR for the Jets, coached by Cecchini at the Citadel): " I’ll always be grateful for the way Dave Cecchini believed in me and pushed me to be the best player I could be. He's an offensive mastermind and makes every one around him better. I'm excited to see what he's going to accomplish at Bucknell"

2. Ryan Fitzpatrick (14 year NFL QB): ""I really enjoyed Coach Cecchini not only as a coach but as a man. He helped me a lot in my college years. He helped me grow up, he taught me a lot about the game of football, and he really taught me a lot about being a great husband and father. He had a lot of characteristics that I really looked up to, and I think he's going to make a great head coach.""
