Opens Pennsylvania -8 1/2

O/U 150 1/2

Ready or not, the qualifying games are here.

Princeton's 4 victories in the "pre-season" have come against teams that are 9-34 against DI opponents.

Princeton's losses have come against teams that are collectively 75-34. Several were pretty close. But Penn should definitely be the bettor's favorite. Unlike last year, we don't have the experienced and skilled guys who could provide leadership and ferret out the Quakers' weaknesses.

It will be very interesting to see if Aririguzoh still has Brodeur's number. Also if Llewelyn picks this moment to impose his will while making good decisions about when to pass or shoot. And can they contain Betley.

Realtime has Princeton Men going 5-9 and Warren Nolan website has them 3-11. I hate to say it but it will be challenging for the Tigers to get to IvyMadness assuming that one cares.

It may turn out as a year to develop young players with upside potential, i.e. Wright, Evo, etc. but you never know for sure what will happen once IL play starts.

Losing both games to Penn, Harvard and Yale would require going 4-4 against the rest of the league to reach 4-10. So I see 6-8 is our ceiling. 5-9 or 4-10 quite likely. 3-11 would be horrible.

FWIW the punters are all over Princeton.

Spot now down to -7 and the O/U 146.

Iowa-Penn State was at the Palestra this afternoon, and the court looked pretty slick. Iowa's starting guard hurt his ankle slipping on the court. Hopefully during the gap between games it dries up a bit

Llewellyn, Wright, Schwieger, Evbuomwan and Aririguzoh to start tonight.

Interesting to see Evboumwan back in the starting lineup

2 early TOs but the interior defense has been solid against Brodeur and Goodman early. Wright starts on Dingle with JL on Goodman. Evbuomwan on Betley

Tigers are getting to the basket on almost every possession early, and shooting 71% on 2s to start. Penn just 1/6 from 3 early, although Dingle looks to be in a rhythm. RA doing a great job on both ends against Brodeur so far.

Tigers up 24-17 with 7 to play

Wow! Best half of the season. Tigers look great on both ends of the court. Stun Penn with 12 point lead at the half.

That was a fun first half. Despite giving up a lot of points off turnovers and long rebounds, the Tigers were great at denying three attempts and bothering layups.

So far, Aririguzoh does still have Brodeur's number. Betley has been contained. Llewelyn is driving better than I've seen in a long time. Schwieger is killing them one on one.

12 point lead at the half is good. Now to watch out for the inevitable comeback.

Huge end to the half as Penn had cut the lead to 29-25, Tigers respond with a 10-2 run including 3s from Llewellyn and Schwieger to go into halftime up 39-27. Tigers are pounding the paint extremely aggressively and it's paying off early. Penn shooting just 36% from the field and 1/8 from 3. Have to expect a run but still an amazing half.

Llewellyn with 11 pts/7 reb/1 ast/1 stl/0 TOs
RA with 8/6, Schwieger has been finding mismatches all game and has 16. Really fun half, gotta hold strong and not let Penn go on any prolonged runs

Tigers will need to be ready to adjust to start the 2nd for sure. Imagine doubles will come on Aririguzoh, and perhaps even Schwieger. They doubled RA once and he looked awkward but was able to pass out. Last year he seemed more comfortable when doubles came, hopefully at halftime the coaching staff can work out some ways to counter them tonight

Still too many easy buckets off Tiger turnovers at the beginning of the first half, and Aririguzoh is struggling more with Brodeur, but the lead is up to 14 at the first media timeout.

Friberg's has 2 3s roll on every part of the rim tonight. Hopefully he can get 1 or 2 to fall soon

Still up 13 at the second media timeout. Game is getting pretty physical and the officials are being tested. Horrible offensive foul call on Llewelyn.

Up 16 with 9:31 to go, mostly because Princeton is getting layup after layup. Backdoors, drives, post-ups, interior passes to the weak side, ORs. The shot chart is going to be one solid color around the rim.

Penn threatens a run on the strength of ferocious offensive rebounding then Tigers get the back doors running. Up 16 with 9 and a half to play.

When the defense is getting stops, this team is really fun to watch. Penn's missing a lot of close ones, but the Tigers are also contesting very well in tight. Lead back up to 16 with 9:30 to go. Crucial 4 minute stretch here to get to the under 4

And the lead hit 18 before Betley got fouled. The announcers are about conceding this one. But I'm still paranoid--what if Donahue puts on a press (he should have done it five minutes ago)?
