We might as well start talking about this game now, because it's a big one for both teams. Yale, Penn, Harvard, and Brown are all floating at 2-3 and only two of them can make the tournament (barring a sharp downturn from Princeton or Cornell). Yale has a lot of its toughest games ahead (e.g. Princeton twice, Brown/Harvard/Penn on the road, Cornell at home), and dropping a home game to Penn makes the road to 7/8 wins a lot rougher, especially because it would put the Bulldogs in tiebreaker trouble with Penn.

Penn, by contrast, has been on a bit of a skid, and beating Yale in JLA would be a way to steal a win ("steal" in the sense that it's a road conference game they'll be an underdog in) and get themselves back on track after three halves of putrid shooting. A Penn win means Penn's road to 7/8 wins becomes a lot easier, since Penn has six home games ahead of them.

amazing how opponent defense on yale has shifted

Reminds me a bit of Kentucky
forcing adjustments by James and we’ll see how that goes

But certainly having limited 3 point range on the team is affecting his counters

might have to run mahoney off 12 ball screens a possession and or let mbeng go hell bent

Worked on Cornell for 30 mins

It'll be interesting to see how Penn plays defense here. They normally are hell-bent for leather when running opposing players off the 3-point line, but it really doesn't seem like that's the best approach against Yale (with the caveat that one would imagine that the shooting could not possibly stay this bad).

I think even if the shooting recovers, Yale does better driving and posting to score anyway, so I wonder if Penn will adopt a different approach this Saturday.

yes though it would be nice if another shooter stepped up. Need pouli to find it again. It just spreads the floor

Otherwise trapping the side to side action w a shooter is a nice way to disrupt these guys if you can hold the interior
Need a counter

mbeng needs to stay out of foul trouble. He has a tough assignment

Strong win by the Bulldogs tonight. Yale did a good job weathering the first half Dingle storm and then made great adjustments to deny him second half opportunities (he had only two points in the second half until very late). Good offensive performances from the guards, and a strong defensive performance from Jarvis. Yale is back in this thing, with a big game against Princeton up next.

Mahoney and mbeng were good. Mahoney is being featured more which makes sense if he can drive and use his right he is just a tough guard at this level
Dingle was nice but nice to see a few 3 balls go in also
