At this point no-one knows what this winter's recruiting class will look like. However it is apparent that Susan and staff are hitting the recruiting trail hard, with Rivals already showing 69 players with Bucknell "interest". Last year at Thanksgiving, the equivalent number was 33 - which in turn was more than the year before. Of course, "interest" needs to translate into signing good players, so we'll have to wait and see - but I'm somewhat optimistic that the staff will bring in a good class this year. BU has already received commitments from two QB's: Ryan Henning, 6'5" QB from North Schuylkill H.S. Brian Connolly, 6'5" QB from Ossining H.S.

Wonder how Henning is doing this year so far? I like his size but he completed only 40% of his passes as a junior in HS, with only about 60 yards a game passing. 700 yards for the season. If those stats are correct.... Also, strange that we would commit 2 QB's early when we need big linemen to commit more than anything else. Wesley is only a soph this year at QB. IF anyone has more info on either of these QB recruits, please fill us in. |

Also, strange that we would commit 2 QB's early when we need big linemen to commit more than anything else. Wesley is only a soph this year at QB. it is common to sign lots of qbs as often the best athletes in high school play that position. many get moved to other positions in college. not sayin thats the plan for either of the two signees. also many need a year or two to develope into college level qbs. i am sure we are pursuing many lineman. one high school lineman 6-0, 280#s just commited, but turns out it is for wrestling. |

Note that 11 of these players are from football-rich Florida.... That's about 15% of the total prospect list. Speed focus or maybe just better players in excellent leagues down there? |

http://www.centredaily.com/2011/10/28/2966034/a- lo... North Schuylkill got quite the scare last week in clinching their third straight Anthracite Football League championship. Quarterback and Bucknell commit Ryan Henning scored on a 6-yard run and Jonathan Long added a two-point conversion with 46.3 seconds left to give the Spartans a 38-37 over Mahanoy Area. Decimated by injuries, the Spartans earned their 27th straight regular-season victory and 26th straight in the AFL. The 38 points were the most surrendered by North Schuylkill since a 40-39 win over Panther Valley on Oct. 24. 2008. Henning also completed 10-of-15 passes for 290 yards in the game, a career-high. |

North Schuylkill remained unbeaten with a very tough win at Mount Carmel, despite losing a number of key players to injury. - - - - - Excerpt: Through it all though, the bottom line is the leadership that keeps spilling over from Ryan Henning and Jonathan "Bubba" Green. Henning, who is headed to Bucknell next fall, was nearly perfect throwing the ball on Senior Night at Spartan Stadium. On his first eight attempts, Henning completed every single pass. He finished the evening 12-of-18 (at least five drops), good for 184 yards and a touchdown. "We're going as far as Henning takes us," Geist said immediately after the win. http://standardspeaker.com/sports/spartans-run-o f-...

Didn't we sign a couple of hotshot QB's from the state of NJ this past year? One of them was being moved to RB? Does anyone know how they are doing and if they are truly players to watch? Also, what is the status of Young for final 2 games this year? |

Also, what is the status of Young for final 2 games this year? 1. Yes, signed two QB's from NJ, but I'm not sure either would make the "hotshot" category. Kareem Hyman, as you say, has been moved to FB. Chris Ibrahim is still a QB but not on the depth chart - except as the backup holder. However, another frosh QB - Trey Lauletta from Downingtown East - has moved up the depth chart to #2 behind Wesley. 2. No idea about Young - other than he traveled to Lafayette and was in uniform. He continues to be #2 on the depth chart at RB. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make an appearance this week. With his status having apparently been questionable for a couple weeks, I was wondering if he might have sustained a concussion.

The Twitterverse suggests we picked up commits from NJ RBs Brian Regan (Cherry Hill East) and Matt Del Mauro (Nutley) today. Regan holds his school's record in the 100 and had the fastest 40 at the Under Armor Baltimore Combine in 2010.

His father Peter was a two time stanley cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the early 90s. I'm guessing they've both learned from him the time and effort it takes to be successful at that level. His brother is a very good safety at Pitt, so hopefully he'll be a great pickup for the Bison. |

Article from this Pittsburgh Tribune's website on Taglianetti's commitment. He turned down offers from Colgate and Holy Cross. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/new... Article also gives us another BU commitment - Taglianetti's teammate, WR (and DB) Brandon Farrell.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/spo... Central Catholic's Lou Taglianetti committed to Bucknell, where he will join teammate and wide receiver Brandon Farrell. Taglianetti said he will play safety and enter the School of Management. "Academics is a lot more important to me than playing football, so I have a chance for a better future," he said. The brother of Pitt safety Andrew Taglianetti also had offers from Holy Cross and Colgate. edit: 137 beat me to it. back to the bench. |

Wasn't much of a fight then, seeing as both Colgate and Holy Cross have no management program. Yes, it wouldn't have been much of a fight IF his first priority was finding a management program. If, like many students, he picked the school and only then picked the major, then it might have been a real recruiting battle. I suspect there are not many recruits like a Chris McNaughton who will only look at schools that have a certain specialty such as engineering. Speaking of engineering, a few years ago Duquesne's basketball program had a good example of how closely many recruits look at academics when selecting a school. Duquesne got a commitment from a Michigan PG who said one of his reasons for choosing Duquesne was its good engineering program - probably was given that info by Everhardt or one of his assistants. The only problem was that Duquesne has no engineering program whatsover. I wonder when the kid discovered that.

Anyone know what's up with Aaron Viscounte? He's a d-lineman out of N. Canton, Oh, who was offered last summer. I can't find any new info on him. |

He didn't turn up on my more generic searches but here is a post from an Ohio football message board that says he committed to Bucknell: http://www.yappi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23476... (see post at 5:10 PM) According to his HS roster on maxpreps, he is 6-3, 262 lbs. 4.8 combine-timed 40. Made 1st team all-county. Articles: http://northcanton.patch.com/articles/student-shou ...

I know he was deciding between BU and one or more Ivy's the other day.

Here is a link to Lehigh Football Nation's list of BU recruits. It's way behind - but he has linked youtube video highlights for many of the players. Regan's highlight film is particularly impressive, and it's clear he has the kind of speed suggested by his 4.37 combine time in the 40 - which if accurate makes him one of the faster BU RB's ever. I believe Cherry Hill East plays at a fairly good level of competition. (Matty G?) http://lehighfootballnati on.blogspot.com/2012/01/u...

Confirmed on Twitter this morning @jeffgreer Boynton Beach FB/LB Audrey Dieujuste texts to say he signed with Bucknell last night. Blog about his commitment. Boynton Beach, btw, is a bit north of Fort Lauderdale. As most of you know, Florida - especially South Florida - is an extremely strong football area. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/highschoolbuzz/2012... It wasn’t official until last night, but the decision was a relief for Audrey Dieujuste. Boynton Beach’s hard-hitting, hard-running senior signed with Bucknell. Dieujuste (6-0, 225 pounds, No. 44 on the Big Board) chose the small Pennsylvania school over Navy and Dartmouth, his coach Rick Swain said. It was an interesting (and at times confusing) process for the bruising two-way player. It was long thought that he’d committed to Navy, but Dieujuste repeatedly denied those rumors. Instead, he’ll play for Bucknell, a Patriot League school that competes in Division I-AA (FCS). Bucknell was 6-5 last season. Dieujuste was a critical part of Boynton’s rebirth in 2011, which saw the Tigers finish 5-5 after a miserable 2-8 campaign in 2010. Dieujuste ran for 267 yards and eight touchdowns, and made the Post All-Area Small Schools team as a linebacker.

Yup - both Cherry Hill schools (East and West) play in the incredibly tough Olympic Conference. It's added quite a few schools since my day, but it's widely regarded as the toughest of all South Jersey (and possibly all of New Jersey) conferences for many sports, including football. Very high level of competition. |

One more commit from two weeks ago: 6'6" 305 lb OT Kenny Barrett from Tampa (FL). Might be an interesting prospect since he has only played one year of football at this point. He is reportedly a good baseball player, so he is probably a good athlete. His team advanced to the semis of Florida 3A (out of 8 groups) before losing to the eventual champs. http://www.tampabay.com/hometeam/blog/berkele ys-ba... - - - - - After one season of organized football, Berkeley Prep OT Kenny Barrett has earned a college scholarship. Buccaneers coach Dominick Ciao announced Monday that Barrett -- also a standout baseball player for Berkeley -- has committed to Division I-AA Bucknell following a weekend visit. He'll become the sixth senior from the Bucs' 2011 team to sign. "It just turned out to be a great fit," Ciao said. "He went up there this weekend and loved it." Combining his size (6-foot-6, 305 pounds) with natural athleticism, Barrett flourised almost immediately on the Bucs' front, helping pave the way for an offense that averaged more than 300 yards a game and came a victory shy of the Class 3A state final. As a junior in 2011, Barrett hit .292 with seven home runs for the baseball team, and is hitting .417 through four contests this season.
