Reported to be a name in the Cornell coaching search.

Well, I'd hate to lose him so early into Donahue's tenure here, but he'd probably be a very good choice. OTOH, I suspect the Cornell job has failure baked into it, meaning he might be better off saying 'no thanks.'

Not sure that I agree. If he gets that job and a 3 or 4 year contract at a much higher salary, even if it doesn't work out in terms of Ws and Ls, he then has head coaching experience and may be able to parlay that into something bigger. After being an assistant for 10(?) years, I think it is pretty difficult to turn such a job down - he has a family to take care of, etc. If he really is in the mix, I can only wish him good luck.

Would it be any better than Langel's Colgate purgatory?

In terms of qualifications, other than apparently having spent a few years in Ithaca, just where is the candidates bar set for that job?

Yeah tough to turn down a head job in his position though of course he would be missed.

If he were to leave, I hope he emphasis would be on a connected recruiter...

No idea. Who's our lead recruiter? If we have one.

Nat has been lead recruiter. He has relationships at NMH and New Hampton. He started on Broduer when he got McManus and Jackson. He also brought Max and Auger from the same league. Steve Donahue is also well known at those prep schools as well.

Well, I don't necessarily think that we as fans have much idea of what certain assistants really bring to the table. Just because Penn hasn't won with Graham on the staff doesn't necessarily mean that he isn't qualified to be a head guy. Maybe he is. If Cornell is interested, that would tell us that some people in the industry view him as a reasonable candidate, which generally means more than what we say.

Yeah, I was under impression he had NMH prep relationship and like what I've seen from Donahue and potential of Brodeur.

That said, to be completely clear, my biggest concern all along with Donahue was recruiting. And frankly, what I see that's publicly available about 2017 recruiting isn't reducing those concerns...

Living in Hamilton NY may well be some sort of purgatory, but I think the job is working out well for him and boosting his stock. Last year his team was picked for 8th in the PL preseason poll and finished 2nd. This year they were picked for 9th and ended up in a tie for 4th. During his first few years all of his success was due to transfers, but he actually landed a decent group of frosh this year for the first time. If he can keep Colgate in the first division - which is a difficult task - he will be in position to move up and out in a couple of years.

Nat Graham, but not Ira Bowman, mentioned as a candidate for the JHU HC job receiving an interview:

Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time seeing this as representing a career stepping stone for Graham. It seems to me he'd be better off waiting for a D1 HC job, or for an assistant job at a high major program. I can't see what a D3 job does for him.

I think JHU is one of the great D-III hoops jobs. The last HC just had a 31 year career there

JHU selected Loyola (MD) assistant coach Josh Loeffler as its new coach.

According to earlier reports Ira Bowman was mentioned as an early candidate, but did not make it to the round of Skype interviews.

Nat Graham did make it into the list of 8-10 people being interviewed by Skype, but did not make it to the final on-campus interviews.

Two former Cornell assistant coaches, Joe Burke and Mike Blaine, did make it to the final group. Burke is the head coach at Skidomore and was an assistant to Steve Donahue at Cornell. Blaine, a former student athlete at Johns Hopkins, is the head coach of Medaille College and was a Big Red assistant under Bill Courtney.

Between Graham and Bowman, is one more responsible for recruiting than the other? Or are responsibilities split rather evenly between the two?
