Monmouth is the second mid-major added to the schedule. Home and home series, starting Dec 20, 2016 at Monmouth, and at Princeton for the the 2017-18 season.

Princeton will play in the Pearl Harbor Invitational on December 6 and 7, with games against California and Hawaii. The fourth team in the two-day event is Seton Hall.

On the one hand, sounds like a good field and useful prep for the season.

On the other hand, I have a little trouble wrapping my head around the concept of a basketball tournament to celebrate the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

St. Joe's plays at Princeton on Wednesday December 14th. (From today's Philadelphia Inquirer).

St. Joe's lost their two best players including a NBA first round draft pick but they always play fierce defense. Last year, the Tigers lost as they had their worst shooting night of the year at St. Joe's.

Should be a competitive game at home.

Based on Lunardi's preseason bracketology, Tigers have scheduled four teams that he projects to be in the NCAA tournament -- VCU, Monmouth, Hawaii and California. Out of conference schedule against good teams is probably not as challenging as last year's schedule --- Miami, Maryland, St. Joe's and Stony Brook although you never know. Unlike last year, it would be ideal if Tigers win at least 2 of the 4 games against stronger competition.

Overall, Ivy League teams out of conference does not look as strong as last year, i.e. Harvard, Columbia, etc. so it will probably not be helpful as to RPI ranking. It may lessen the ability of Tigers to get into NCAA tournament if they lose dreadful Ivy League conference tournament game unless they play extremely well against out of conference teams and a very strong conference record. Ivy League teams need to upgrade their schedule if two Ivy teams are ever going to go the Big Dance in one year.

Lunardi has the Tigers as the 12th seed playing Maryland in the West therefore Tiger fans have nothing to worry about -- laugh laugh.

Tigers play one of three games against Italian pro teams starting this Friday. On website, there is a daily story of what they are up to. Brase is on the trip. Cook looks like he grew some more.

Strikes me that the trip to Italy playing against some pro competition is a way to get the Tigers ready to play ball early in the season as several of their most challenging non-conference games, i.e. VCU etc., come early in the season. I would not be surprised if he goes all out on non-conference games to try to make a case for a NCAA bid if the Tigers get knocked out in the Ivy Tournament. If Henderson has ambitions to go to a bigger program, he may have additional incentive based on the roster that he has. Time will tell.

Yes, this team on paper should be MH's best yet.. If I were a Columbia fan I'd be giddily debating NCAA seedings about now. And I want to get carried away. But experience makes tif hard to go beyond wary optimism.

Devin Cannady is the best dressed Tiger, and has quite the entertaining personality.

Wary optimism is a good way to look at the season as you never know what will transpire --- injuries, egos, bad shooting, one point losses, etc. A big challenge for Henderson will be how best to utilize Miller, Brase and Brennan; especially if the Tigers get to tournament play.

Game against Bologna is on nettnotv.tv/bologna

Bologna has big guys plus DJ Strawberry and Lamont Gordon --- men against boys.

Bologna had a 9-2 lead as Tigers could not hit any shots but Tigers are up 15-13. Brase has not been on the court as he may still be recovering. Tigers playing very aggressive defense against pro players --- Bologna does not look like it is taking the game too seriously although that will probably change. Cook looks very good.

1) It's a website, not a TV.

2) I believe the correct link was http://nettunotv.tv/bologna/

3) It's all over anyway by now.

You're welcome for all this moot info.

Appears that the Tigers won by by 6 pts in OT after being down 21 points in the 2nd half. Fluke 3 pt shot by Rayner tied the game at 77-77 with no time left. LeBlanc lead scoring with 18 pts. Exhibition game but the Tigers looked reasonably good considering all factors.

Looks like the second unit led the way, which is good in a way. MH especially credited their D. Also saw more contested layups go in in that short highlight reel than in entire weekends last season. Loved their excitement after getting to OT and after the game.

Sorry we couldn't see where the last second 3 that tied the game came from. Great comeback from 70-50. But how did we get so far behind in the first place? I hope that this is no omen for the season. With this much talent and experience I am hoping for a few more blowout wins with non rotation players getting plenty of cleanup time.

How do we rate this opponent with our opposition this upcoming season?

I would read very, very, very little into these results. Like, much less than even closed-door preseason scrimmages.

Princeton will be really good this season. Nothing here should change that Bayesian prior.

I watched the first half and there are no legitimate comparisons to teams that the Tigers will face this year. Bologna has a number of veteran season pros and some young kids but they are pros. They played hard when they wanted to play hard and put very good ball pressure on the Tiger guards.

Tigers could not hit their 3 pt shots but it is very early. The biggest difference vs. prior years is that the team has much much more athletic players -- Cook, Caruso, Cannady, Bell, Miller etc. and they play at a much faster pace. They defended well and athletically. Weisz, LeBlanc, Young etc. are old school Tiger players -- slower but smart and shooters. One concern is that Brase did not play but he is there and they are probably bringing him slowly.

Overall, Tigers look like they have a fair amount of talented players but that does not guarantee success.

Brennan did play both the 1st game and today's game. He dunked off the opening tap tonight from Miller to Rayner to Brennan. Miller and Brennan have been on the floor together for limited minutes in both games to get some size on the floor. Brennan looks much better defensively-- much more aggressive but he does make some wacky plays offensively. Miller should get the majority of minutes depending on Brase's availability.

Tigers won by nine points today thanks to Weisz. Weisz was deadly in the 3rd quarter. It was a pretty brutal game to watch. Good defense - poor rushed offense. Tigers looked like the more athletic team --- Italian team was not very good.

Weiz, Cook, Caruso, Miller and Cannady apear to be the most reliable players with Cook playing like he did during the 2nd half of last year. One more game to go tomorrow.

Thanks for the info. Based on the roster, today's game should be the toughest challenge for the Tigers. TJ Bray played for this "A" level team two years ago -- I believe.

They have a big kid - Tolbert - who played at SMU recently and he was good.

Best game of the three with OT loss to a very good Italian "A" level team. Coach played it like a regular season game as to minutes although he played the 2nd team for the entire OT. Cook had another strong game and Miller was able to nullify former SMU big -- Tolbert.

Brase was once again on the floor in warm ups and looked good although he never played a minute on the trip which is unfortunate. Henderson will need to figure out how to use Miller, Brase and Brennan in a rotation during the non-conference schedule. Cannady, Stephens and Bell had their ups and downs but they are still young. Team looked similar to how they played last year and the question will be is it good enough???

Surprising, that Henderson used an overseas trip with a senior laced team that has played together for three years. It will be interesting to see if the trip helps. It looks like the players had a great time.

Bell isn't young any more. The team needs him to be a reliable leader and a consistent threat off the dribble.

Looks like Princeton will open the season at BYU on November 14. Another quality non-conference opponent.
