Agreed. Nice to see the guys gut out a win down a starter and after giving up 22 turnovers (turnovers haven't been an issue).

Solid games from Whiteside and Bathurst (thought I wish Wil would stop taking 3s), and Jack Gordon looks like a regular.

Cornell was up 31 - 28 at half, despite 16 turnovers. Fortunately, they shot 58% for the half and Columbia only shot 28% (including 2-11 from three). The Red outrebounded Columbia 20-18, but the Lions had 7-1 advantage on offensive boards.

Columbia kept trying to break the game open in the second half, but Cornell would respond each time. With 4:08 to go, the game was tied for the 6th and last time.

The Lions were up 1 with just under 3 mintues to go, when Gordon pulled a big offensive rebound from a Gettings 3 and Bathurst hit a jumper to put Cornell ahead. Morgan sank a three to make it a 4 point game with about 90 seconds left.

With Cornell up 3 with 30 seconds left, Hunter stole the ball from Morgan and gave the Lions a late chance to tie. Petrasek missed a three-pointer and Bathurst got the rebound and made two free throws to seal the win.

Morgan had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Although Bathurst brought the ball up most of the game, Morgan had his biggest night of assist all year. This distribution is something that Coach Earl has been looking for Morgan to do all season long. One has to wonder if this total has anything to do with Hatter's absence.

Whiteside had 13 points and 4 boards.
Gettings had 13 points and 5 rebounds, but only one assist. He had 6 turnovers in the game, but only one in the second half.
Bathurst had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Along with Morgan, he really put himself out there as the game came down to the wire. He ended up with 4 points and a big defensive rebound in the last few minutes.
Jack Gordon earned more playing time on Saturday. While he was not as much as an offensive factor as he was the previous week, he did have a couple of key rebounds late and had the coach's confidence during crunch time. It will be interesting to see if he takes time from Fallas, who hit his only shot of the game in the first 2 minutes of the contest.

The Red played very good defense, holding Columbia to 31% overall and 26% from three. They did have trouble, though, with the very fast Mike Smith, who scored 24 points. Hickman added 13, but Petrasek only scored 8 following his 31 point outburst in Ithaca last week.

Cornell won in overall rebounding, 41-39, but lost in offensive rebounding 7-16. They may have lost the overall battle for points in the pain, 28-30, but greatly improved from last week, 18-42.

Maybe the biggest issue on Saturday was the free throw shooting. Cornell had entered 7th in the league with 67% accuracy. They started off 0-3 in the first half, but went 13-15 in the second half, including 8 of 10 down the stretch. Columbia, on the other hand, started out 10 for its first 13, but ended up 4 for 9 in the last few minutes.
