Harvard slides by 82-68.

With two weeks to prepare, Dartmouth seems to have concentrated on shutting down the post play of Lewis (1-5 fg) and utilizing Brendan Barry (28 min, 10pts, 5 assts) at PG. Lewis killed Dartmouth down low in the first meeting.

Dartmouth outrebounds Harvard, so the second guessing continues on the continuing low usage of Zena (23 min). In limited minutes, Zena shot 7-8 for 15pts, had 7 rbs and 3 blocks. Lewis had 7 rbs and 3 blocks also, but only one late bucket.

Corbin Miller back in the lineup and goes 2-2 on 3's. Corey Johnson hits 5-7 3's for 15pts while Seth Towns leads with 19pts. Only 9 pts for Bryce, but 5 assists. Siyani with 10 and 5, but continues to struggle from the field (2-9).

On to next weekend at Cornell and Columbia. Chance to start strong before hosting Penn and Princeton the following weekend. It would be so great for Harvard to be 5-0 when hosting Princeton on Saturday March 4th at Lavietes. Not sure Harvard is consistent enough yet.

Another observation: Dartmouth coaching did a great job of adjusting to take away Harvard's threats from the first game. Bassey and Lewis had combined for 28 points on 13-17 shooting. By packing the lane, these two were held to only 2-10 shooting and 8 points between them.

Harvard needs to take note of how ineffective it was when it tried to play inside. No one on Dartmouth ended up in foul trouble and Zena, Lewis and Egi went to the line only one time the entire game between them. Also, Harvard was outrebounded by Dartmouth over the two games. That shouldn't happen, but likely will if Zena continues to see limited minutes.

Dartmouth's defense, however, opened up Harvard's ball movement offense (20 assists vs 13 two weeks ago) resulting in good looks and 13-24 on 3's. Zena also took advantage of the overplay with put backs and by rolling to the basket off screens for a 7-8 night and 15 points. Amaker did a great job of riding Lewis in Hanover, and utilizing Zena when Dartmouth took away Lewis' offense in Cambridge.

Kudos to Dartmouth's play in the last 7 minutes of the first half. After falling behind 22-9 early and then 29-17, Dartmouth established a balanced offense, outscoring Harvard 18-5 to take a lead into the half (6 players scored). Dartmouth will win games, especially against teams that don't have a player who can limit Boudreaux in man defense.

A very good job of coaching and adjusting by both coaching staffs. For the second time, Harvard's depth and size enabled it to pull away from a fatigued Dartmouth squad in the second half.
First Halves: Harvard 67-61
Second Halves: Harvard 89-65

Thank H78, I've got my tix for Saturday and am pondering with the wife whether to make a day trip to Ithaca. If she can find something interesting (to her) along the way then it will be interesting. I've been to games at all other Ivy arena's, but not Cornell. Anyone have a suggestion?

There are several wineries north of Ithaca along the lake and an interesting farm market on Saturday. Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks CW!

Hmmm, I used to acquire my game face for Crimson hockey games via Tequila at the Boat House on what was then called Boyston St. (Now JFK Boulevard). I guess a vineyard hosted wine tasting a more mature version. Fits nicely with 'fighting fiercely' - "I do believe ...."

Also, lubrication could help as both Cornell and Harvard still reflect high variation.
