Big game coming up in Providence Friday. If Harvard loses it could find itself at 4-4 at the end of the weekend and in a battle for 4th place. At Yale Saturday will be tough. Last weekend's games were interesting. Harvard got off to a characteristic slow start vs Penn and a zone on Friday, falling behind 19-4 as Penn hit 8 of first 10 shots. Harvard, led by Chambers, pushed the pace and then dominated 65-40 thereafter. Zena totally thwarted Brodeur and Lewis handled him well after the first few minutes. Saturday was quite a contest. Princeton had obviously scouted the prior night and dropped back on defense quickly to force Harvard into a half court offense. Princeton's 3 centers brought nothing - literally, 0 points and 0 rebounds in a combined 32 minutes. Weisz, Stephens, Cook and Bell shot well enough from 3. Zena and Bryce limited by foul trouble. Bottom line: Harvard broke through to seemingly win the game but then game it away. Tournament is going to be interesting. |

Last 5 Ivy Games: 1st half: Harvard -32 2nd half: Harvard +58 Brown seems to play 8 players significant minutes (10+) with one or two others seeing action. Brown has withered in the second half against better teams (Yale, Princeton), but outscored 3 others in the second half. Senior leadership (Spieth) and great foul shooting could mean Harvard needs to come out strong in 1st half. |

Great win and great second half. The first half vs. second half stuff is so interesting with Harvard. Do we adjust well and find the right line up and rotation (tonight Zena and Weisner Perez) or conversely is there something lacking in our game planning during the week? Still great result. See you all in Philly? |

Yes, discrepancy between halves is remarkable. Zena, Siyani and Bryce seem to thrive then. Zena's fouls limited him to 15 minutes but 8pts/9rbs. Bought tix for the tourney - is that what you meant? |

Harvard has been wearing teams down somewhat in the second half, with all those bigs attacking inside and challenging shots all game and the two energizer bunnies at PG. Brown looked gassed to me, including a collapse in their FT shooting and three-point shooting. Their feet stopped moving on defense some as well, while Harvard kept zipping passes around and getting dribble penetration. First game I've seen where Towns looked the part, especially how he just played in the flow of the game after his first couple of minutes, not trying too many high degree-of-difficulty moves. Also very nice defense. Aiken still fearless to a fault, but the Brown defense started leaving him lots of space as the game wore on. |

Towns and Aiken are interesting. Towns seems to thrive on his agility, length and ability to maintain a soft shooting touch while driving to the hoop. Aiken is quick off the dribble and, like Towns, can finish creatively and accurately. Great skills for a man defense. However, both Towns and Aiken are so quick to put the ball on the floor and commit that the zone defenses Harvard has been seeing cause them issues. Both seem to have higher TO rates and Aiken charged with offensive fouls on the help defender. By the way, it appears that Weisner Perez and Robert Baker have replaced Chris Egi who replaced Henry Welsh as the other big(s) with Chris and Zena. Perez has that Jonah Travis like tenacity, adding a bit of offense and rebounding. Amaker seems to be trying to coerce Baker into being an asset on defense, although Princeton's Cook seemed able to drive around him. |
