Wow. Most pundits in DC expected him to get one more year. I feel bad. My sense was that the Georgetown community genuinely liked him and wanted to see him succeed... Tough business. |

Yes, GG, I was surprised too. WaPo had a long article basically saying the same thing. I guess a lot of wealthy alums spoke up.

I think JTIII is a fantastic coach - Henderson implied one year that he's responsible for the "modern" way Princeton-derived teams play. Ball screens were not usually a part of Carril designed offenses, for instance. But with all that was surrounding the program, one year was probably not enough to turn it around. Keeping him, would be committing to a longer process. I think letting him go is a mistake, but giving him one more year wouldn't have made sense. |

A friend of mine said it's increasingly difficult to coach at what is essentially a basketball-only school. Not sure why this would be the case.

I would be shocked if they hired Ewing. They want a big time recruiter with a track record. This may be the last chance to prevent Georgetown from going into a St. John's type permanent decline. They will go for someone like Gregg Marshall of Wichita State. Even if he doesn't succeed, his wife is a hoot. |

Gregg Marshall isn't dumb enough to take the Georgetown job. No-how, no-way. His current basketball budget and facilities probably dwarf what G'Town can offer. |

You wouldn't say that if the job were open at Villanova, which actually has fewer resources than Georgetown. G-Town is a big time program--at a significantly higher level than Missouri Valley. It's down now, but it's a big upgrade from Wichita State. I agree though that if he is offered Indiana, he'd be crazy not to take it. |

Having looked it up, I find that Georgetown lists expenses of $11.3 million for men's hoops and Wichita State a mere $6.9 million. Of course, the local price index in D.C. is way higher than in Wichita, so on a purchasing-power-parity basis they are a lot closer. |
