La Salle has posted its non-conference schedule and it notes that the Explorers will visit Penn on Monday November 13th.

OK. That's at least one game we know of. Let's see how long it takes for Penn to release its own out of conference schedule this year. A pool to guess?

NYC Buckets has a schedule tracker and they're nice and localized. Far and away the best consolidated spot for schedules is the Mega Schedule spreadsheet on Reddit. You can sort by conference.

Thanks for that referral. Unfortunately, the LaSalle game is the only game shown for Penn at this time. Isn't the Ivy schedule already in place other than the two games with your travel partner?

It may be that they are still tinkering with it. For example, trying to set up some men - women doubleheaders.

That would be interesting. As you may know, the two last year came about because Princeton did not want its players traveling the weekend before their ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS January finals. This time it would be done (if it is done) with intent. We'll see.

I was reading the other day (I think that it was on the NYC Buckets web site) that the men's team is slated to participate in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, FL on November 20-22.

Ahh, that's at the Germain Arena, home of the world famous Florida Everblades. Nice minor league arena. I would not expect this to be North Carolina in the tournament. Great logo for that team--I bought a T-shirt with it. https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:// florid...

It looks to be, pretty much, a mid-major tournament that has been around since 2013. Last year, Houston and George Mason were two of the teams (Houston won the tournament). I have yet to see any teams (other than the blurb I saw about Penn being one of the participants).

Florida Everblades. Love that name.

What's weird about the Gulf Coast Showcase - which seems like a very cool MM event, tbh - is that at least last year, all the participants had to host a non-DI team prior to the tournament. Very odd.

It's kind of fun projecting the team's possible opponents for a given season. Regarding teams that the Quakers played last season, we can eliminate a return game at the Palestra for Miami as they have released their non-conference schedule and Penn was not on it. I would not be surprised if Central Florida plays at the Palestra and the Quakers play at Fairfield as part of a 2d half of a home-and-home. Drexel should be on the schedule as well as, possibly, Navy. With the projected Gulf Coast Showcase, the Ivy schedule, and the Big Five schedule, there really are not that many non-conference games the team could possibly play, assuming that it is a 27 or 28 game season. I'd love to see a Kentucky, UCLA, or Arizona (or any other big name team) play at the Palestra but know, in reality, that will not happen.

It's a 27 game season (unless you play in an exempt tournament) - this was brought by the Ivy League geniuses as part of the creation of the Ivy Tournament last year. This means that if you don't get to the Ivy Tournament, you get screwed out of gate receipts or other compensation for one game. Thanks Ivy League!

With Princeton releasing almost all of its schedule, we can note the non-Penn/Princeton portion of the Quakers' Ivy League conference games for the 2018 season.

I wonder if Princeton has listed the games on the 12th and 13th correctly.

Last year, Penn had home games against Columbia on a Friday night and Cornell on a Sunday afternoon. This would be the same order for this upcoming season.

The schedule for the Cornell women's team has them visiting Penn on Friday the 12th and Princeton on the 13th.

Since there appears to be men's and women's double-headers at Penn and Princeton that weekend, it would appear to be more logical for Penn vs Cornell on the 12th and Penn vs Columbia on the 13th.

If this year's schedule follows last year's pattern, Penn and Princeton will play their first game on January 6th. It should be a Penn home game since last year the first one was at Princeton. If this is so, Penn will be playing their first five league games at home so a fast start will be imperative.

So with the 27 game schedule it looks like Penn has one unknown non-league game left. Penn is currently at 23 games with Temple, St. Joe's and Drexel still to be added the schedule.

I stand corrected, as Drexel has released their non-conference schedule and Penn isn't on it. So Temple and St. Joe's are 2 of the 4 remaining non-conference games for Penn.

I doubt that Lafayette will be on it this year....

Per the article:

Brandywine men's basketball has played at the Palestra five times since 1995, most recently on January 20, 2005, suffering a 55-48 setback to the Quakers' junior varsity squad. Each of the teams' meetings at the Palestra came while Brandywine was allowed only two-year eligibility for student-athletes by PSUAC rule.

As Pennhoops noted in June, last year every team participating in the Gulf Coast Showcase hosted a home game against a Non D-1 opponent.

I believe that this year, like last year, the eight teams in Estero (and Penn's three opponents) will all be D-1 programs.

So does this count as one of those tournaments we can only do 2 out of every 4 years?!?

If so that's a pretty pathetic lineup to justify using one of our tournament opps we can only do 2 out of 4 years. We really couldn't get into a better one?

The Quakers will host Navy on November 15th.

http://www.navysports.com/sports/m-baskbl/sched /na...

Over at Blogging the Bracket, the Gulf Coast Showcase now lists Penn, FAU, Manhattan and Towson with 4 TBD. The Penn State - Brandywine game is not listed on its Non-Bracketed game.

So far, the non-conference is -
11/11/17 at Fairfield
11/13/17 vs La Salle
11/15/17 vs Navy
11/18/17 vs Penn State-Brandywine
11/20/17 at Gulf Coast Showcase (Estero, FL)
11/21/17 at Gulf Coast Showcase (Estero, FL)
11/22/17 at Gulf Coast Showcase (Estero, FL)
11/25/17 at Monmouth
12/04/17 at Howard (not sure if this is home or away)
12/09/17 at Dayton

If Penn St. Brandywine is part of the Gulf Coast Classic, that game, and the three games in Florida count as 1 game for scheduling purposes.

We would then be awaiting dates for Temple, St. Joe, at Villanova, at Lafayette and TWO other opponents.

Howard University has not officially confirmed a December 4 game with Penn. We are depending on other sources for the scheduling of that game.

Penn and Lafayette have played each other almost every year since Fran O'Hanlon left Fran Dunphy's staff to become the head coach at Lafayette.

And switch opponents on February 23 and February 24. The Dartmouth home game is now on Friday night and the Harvard home game is now on Saturday night. This switch was probably instigated by Princeton based upon ESPN U agreeing to televise the Harvard at Princeton game if it were moved to Friday night.

Friday 1/05/18 vs Princeton

For Penn, the first game will be during winter break. The second will be between a home game against Yale on the 3rd and a road game against Dartmouth on the 9th.

For those interested, Temple won't play a home game until Dec. 6, but from then through Dec. 16 will host Wisconsin, St. Joe's, Villanova and Drexel in succession.

Consider me officially ticked off about playing Nova in the old Cat House. This seats 1500 for a game that could draw 4x that easily. Why not move it to the Palestra? Jay? Of course that would make all 4 big 5 games at 'home' ;-)

The rest of the schedule raises to big alarm bells save for the all the road games in February. At least the road PU game comes off a home weekend.

I'm with Streamers on this. That place was/is also a bandbox where Villanova used to get some unbelievable calls for them in the 60s and 70s. I wanted to go there for years and, before it was to close, went there for a game that featured the minor league Philly team somewhere in the late 80s.

Maybe Nova felt that it should not play in the Palestra in memory of Rollie.

If you are talking about Villanova's old field house, I was there in 1966 when we beat them 48-37 in a very tight, exciting game. But, the V fans were horrible -- especially when we had clinched the win in the final minute. They threw all sorts of things from the seats above the court. The refs stopped the game and the PA announcer warned the fans. Butch van Breda Kolff, our coach, said that he would never play there again. The V fans did the same thing against St Johns later in that season and the refs called a forfeit. I've thought of Villanova as bush league ever since that game.
