There were four, Brey, Hummer, Maddox and Clay Wilson http://goprincetontigers.com/news/2017/6/16/mens-b ... |

Too bad Clay Wilson couldn't play better defense at Princeton. |

.??? I recall Mavraides as a clutch player, although I was unable to attend many games. I don't remember defense being an issue with him. If it was, he more than made up for it in the other aspects of his game. Wilson came in as a killer shooter from 3. But, he didn't get near as much PT because, apparently, the rest of his game was lacking. No criticism, but I wish that he could have been a more complete player because he could shoot the lights out when he was open. |

Mavraides was a good defender, physical though not super-quick. |

There are ways to excel as a defender without being super quick. Look at Klay Thompson, as an example. He's rarely out of position, he anticipates well, and his footwork is very precise. I thought he did an amazing job defending multiple positions in the NBA Finals. He made life difficult for Irving, Love and LeBron, when he guarded them. |

Primarily, the problem there was that beyond Cleveland's Big 3, they had nothing and GS just wore them down. Cleveland blew leads in 3 games. I don't know that the defense you praise was much more than fatigue setting in on the other side. |

The Warriors definitely wore Cleveland out with pace, and I'll agree that they didn't get much from their supporting cast. With the exception of game 4, they pretty much made Tristan Thompson disappear, Love didn't contribute consistently (and remains a defensive liability), and J.R. Smith did what he usually does: shoots his team into a game and then shoots it out of the game, often in the same game. Plus, even though he has the ability to be a good defender, he too often gets caught ball-watching, and ends up being beaten by a back cut. Irving and LeBron played huge minutes all the way through, and it's really difficult to play that hard at both ends of the floor when those two are their team's primary offensive options. I actually figured the game Cleveland played in Game 4 was the game they would have played in Game 3. As that third game went into crunch time, I was thinking that the Warriors definitely had another run coming, and the question was whether or not the Cavs could hold them off. Golden State can make a six or eight point deficit disappear in the blink of an eye. Game 4 turned out to be a death rattle. As for the defense vs. fatigue question, I was actually looking at it from the start of the series. Klay Thompson was locked in defensively from the very start, and had much to do with the first two games being blowouts, even though he scored only modestly. |

I just saw an article about Dan Mavraides who was chosen to play on Team USA 3 on 3 organized by FIBA. Marvraides presently works in Beverly Hills as a portfolio manager. Other players on the team included Damon Hoffman (Brown),Craig Moore(Northwestern) and Zahir Carrington (Lehigh). The team lost to Serbia in the quarterfinals in France last week. FIBA uses a smaller ball, 12 sec shot clock, and awards 1 point for shots inside the arc and 2 points for outside the arc. 3 on 3 will be an Olympic sport. |

The article has a classic shot of Mavraides getting his head and shoulders past the defender in order to get by. His signature move. |
