Haven’t gotten myself overly educated on specific players in the 2019 class yet, but from what I’ve observed following Noah at NMH, Max is playing like a high major player. Given Harvard’s needs for the 2019 class, I’d expect the Crimson to be heavily involved as likely will other Ivies. Will be interesting to see where things shake out following the spring and summer travel seasons. |

your phrasing confuses me a little PF. Do you mean: 1. We have one possible recruit for 2019 (two septembers from now) and then we're done recruiting for then? 2. We have one possible transfer recruit who wouldn't be allowed to play until September 2019 because of traditional transfer rules? 3. We have one possible recruit for 2018 who would obviously be a late edition but could play this September? |

It's good to see Penn in the mix with a number of high level transfers. It's easier to imagine a transfer making an immediate impact, although the program will eventually need to sustain on it's own Freshman recruits. The only downside is that the team chemistry was so good this year - and transfers tend to upset the existing existing players who lose PT more than Freshmen. I'll give this team and Donahue the benefit of the doubt in making it work, however. |

From Cityofbasketballlove.com: JB Hoops opened its April live periods with a four-point overtime win against Alvin Gentry Elite (Az.) in a 17U showcase game, riding the hot hand of Leo O’Boyle. The Scranton Prep junior accounted for 29 of his team’s 62 points in the victory, showcasing a versatile scoring ability from all over the floor. A 6-foot-6, 215-pound wing forward, O’Boyle knocked down three 3-pointers along the way but got most of his production within 15 feet, hitting several contested pull-up jumpers and driving layups with both hands through contact. “It’s really going to build up my confidence, now knowing that I’m shooting pretty well, driving pretty well and all of that,†he said afterwards. “So hopefully I can keep it going.†O’Boyle has picked up one Division I offer in high school tenure, from NJIT as a sophomore, but he said he’s no longer being recruited by that school’s staff. Instead, it’s now Ivy/Patriot types who are reaching out to a student-athlete with a 3.7 GPA; O’Boyle named Colgate, Holy Cross, Dartmouth, and Penn as four in particular that had been in touch of late. Penn head coach Steve Donahue, who brought O’Boyle down to an elite camp last summer was watching this outing from the baseline. |

I want to be there when they argue over who gets to wear number 4. Assign the longest tenured player #4, offer the next player to show up #44. If a third shows up, offer him #22. If you're lucky enough to add a fourth to your roster, offer him #8. The fifth? Assign him #16. Beyond that, I have no more suggestions. |

Obviously huge grain of salt on the second half of this tweet, but all 6 people predicting Max Lorca-Lloyd's college selection on 24/7 are predicting Penn and have made that prediction within the past week: Leader Johnson Penn is is a heavy favorite to land 2019 4-star PF Maxwell Lorca-Lloyd. Penn has turned to the second best team in the Big 5. Would not fret too much about rankings as an ESPN 79 is the top of the 3* range. Michael Wang had the same number. If you get an 80 rating you're a 4**** but at the bottom of the 4**** range. VC has him as a composite 2.5, but since the VC composite is supposed to be a composite of Rivals (4****) and ESPN (3***) and Scout (not rated) the VC composite number is virtually meaningless. |

There's obviously a lot of parsing when reading anything online, but I wouldn't consider Lorca-Lloyd a 'big guy project', especially at our level. Don't think he's necessarily being viewed as ready two-way player day 1 as Brodeur was, or even Wang may be - but he is at NMH, which plays a highly competitive schedule. Sounds like his defense is ahead of his offense, which is OK. |

Very much appreciated, but I may not be of much help this season - at least with up-to-date info. Totally agree that nychoops can be helpful here, and I'd also highly recommend regional sites over the national ones, except for those Top 100/150 kids. NERR, for instance, does a fantastic job overall and does especially well with kids that have been in New England for multiple years. Max is No. 6 there, which would edge Zena as the highest ever in those rankings to go Ivy. Typically almost all of the Top 10 goes high major and most of the 11-20 folks will have that option as well. The list of Top 20 recruits in NERR to go Ivy over the past decade isn't all that long: Idan Tretout (2019), Noah Kirkwood (2018), Ethan Wright (2018), AJ, Corey Johnson, Makai Mason, Zena, Kyle Casey. |

From Mike's post on the Ivy League Board: Now to return to my comment about my hiatus from the top. My wife and I are about to have our third child, which is incredibly exciting. Between #dayjob and #dadlife, something has to give. Covering the league the way I'd want to cover it (checking in with folks around the league, watching a bunch of games from across the league, booting up the code), just doesn't seem like it will be possible - at least in the short run. So I'm going to power down the Twitter feed and my active participation on these boards for this season. I'll still be checking in from time to time, and I hope to get back to covering the league in the future. But I need to be realistic about my time, and this seems like it has to be on my cut list. I'll still be watching, and if we can survive the usual devastation in October and November, it could be a HUGE year for our league! -Mike |

thanks. i can't believe i missed that page/post. good luck with the kid. I have 4 and anybody that's not playing zone defense with kids has it easy*. * - i wanted to leave it intentionally inflammatory but my old age will point out that those who have special needs kids obviously have it way harder. |

There are articles that say he has only played basketball for 5 years. From his video: - He looked like he could be a great shot blocker. - He is described as a great rebounder on both ends, although it wasn't obvious on his highlight video. I couldn't tell if he used his positioning and had a continuous motor. - He had some good moves, although his shot and dribble look a bit funny. - Very interesting combination of height and athleticism. - He would be a great get for us!
Have you read anything that suggests that he's a project? My experience is that players who are described as 'projects' almost never amount to anything.

I believe AJ Brodeur was the only one in a very long time.
A 4 star? Penn is in the running for a 4 star? When did we last get a 4 star? |

I thought Brodeur was pretty universally rated at 3 stars. Were there any recruiting sources rating him at 4? Not that any of this really matters. Perhaps we should be having a conversation on accuracy vs. precision. |

Think you're right about that. Also rankings from the recruiting sites are not the end-all. They aren't as invested in it as the coaches are, especially at the level of recruit we're talking about. Bruner was a somewhat higher ranked recruit than Brodeur. Who you want now? Sure, the answer could be different if Bruner was healthy but it's unclear healthy Bruner is a thing. Comparing Brodeur and Lorca-Lloyd - Brodeur had more polish, an unquestioned motor, and was athletic enough. Lorca-Lloyd is more raw relatively speaking but can play, has better athleticism, and a body that many think will fill out well. If Lorca-Lloyd had Brodeur's polish then he'd probably be a good high major recruit. |

Jordan Dingle visited Penn last weekend. Shooting guard from LI who is playing at Blair Academy. BU trip this weekend then St. Louis and Dartmouth also contenders. A good list of mid major offers overall. |

A good list of mid major offers overall. With 5 wings already coming in over the next 2 years, is the interest in Dingle because he is considered better? Because he could potentially run the point better than the others who have already committed? |

Seen Max play quite a bit....hes a very interesting talent ...VERY similar game to Harrison Schaen..in no way saying that their college career or passion for the game are the same Good lord I don't think I've ever seen anyone with that kind of talent who cared less about his sport than Schaen |

We sucked then. And Jones is convincing. And it's Yale. But signing up does require you to play for Jones. Donahue is a much better coach. The only way Jones is capable of winning anything is when he has the most dominant team in the league. It happened when he had Sears-Sherrod-Mason during a down year for Harvard. Hard to replicate because it's not likely Harvard will have another season like that and we're back from the dead. |

I think we’ve had this argument before, but I think Jones is a fine coach. I think Donahue, Amaker, Jones, and Henderson are all great. The consistency of Jones’ record speaks for itself. I suppose it also speaks some to his limitations, but, following a history of futility prior to Jones, I would take 20 straight years of top 4 finishes. |

First off, we should mention in this thread that MLL did pick PENN! Second, Josh from COBL highlighted Lucas Monroe as one of his standouts from Saturday’s game: https://www.cityofbasketballlove.com/news_article/... Lucas Monroe (2019/Abington, Pa.) Now that Robbie Heath has graduated from Abington, Monroe will take over at the point. He’s got a few inches on Heath, but didn’t look too out of place on Saturday bringing the ball up and facilitating the offense. The 6-5 Penn commit looked comfortable with the ball in his hands and setting up teammates for open looks. He even got the chance to get an exciting alley-oop in his second game which electrified the bench. 6’5†with point guard skills and athleticism to be on the end of an alley-oop. Gotta like that! |

Lucas Monroe is interesting - he could conceivably slot in any of 4 positions. Kind of like an under the radar Noah Kirkwood. There are a few full length Abington games on youtube. I can provide links if anyone wants. They aren't hard to find. Just a warning for the uninitiated - unlike highlight reels, you'll see both good and not so good, don't freak out about the latter. My feeling is that this is a really good recruiting class. The players are skilled, athletic, and fit Donahue's mold for the team. |

Just saw that Jordan Dingle played well in a close Blair loss in National Prep Showcase. He scored 30 points on 13 of 18 shooting and 4 of 7 from 3. Blair lost 85-86 against Tilton School, but hell of a scoring effort. |

NYCHoops, I sort of lost track on all of our recruiting stories. Too many to remember (for a healthy change). Dingle's video looked great. I don't think we've had a PG recruit with his physical presence before. Any story on why he wasn't more heavily recruited, yet seems to have star potential? Your cred is very good here, so I'm not in any way doubting. Just wondering about his story and how he might have been overlooked. That kid is ripped. |
