Mike Martin has picked up his 2nd recruit for 2018.

Thomas Shaughnessy, a 2-star 6'0" point guard from Needham High School in Needham, MA, committed to Brown today.

He chose Brown over Binghamton, Loyola-Maryland, Navy, American, Army, Quinnipiac, Boston University, Manhattan, and Bryant.

He is the 2nd player for the fall of 2018 to commit to the Bears. David Mitchell, a 2-star 6'5" shooting guard from Boston, joined earlier this month.

Jaylan Gainey, a 2 star 6' 10" PF from Ben Smith High School in Greensboro (NC), committed to Brown for the fall of 2018.

According to Verbal Commits, he chose the Bears over Lafayette, Howard, Army Canisius, NC A&T, Appalachian State, Hamton, Denver, Maryland Eastern Shore, Western Carolina, and NC Central.

Gainey is the 3rd 2018 recruit for Mike Martin. The other two are SG David Mitchell and PG Thomas Shaughnessy.

According to the article at Phenom Hoop Report -
Jaylen is a long, quick and athletic face up four that is going to create havoc on both ends of the court at the high school and collegiate level. Coach Carrier stated, “Jaylan is very active especially with his shot blocking ability. He runs the court extremely well and finished so well in the paint.” In addition, Jaylan is so crafty and has terrific footwork in the post and has impeccable timing on his shot blocking ability. The next step in his development is to add more muscle to his frame and watch out. What you see now is not the finished product, but when you do, watch out for this promising young prospect."

We’ve always been impressed with his feel for the game and like many young players with his size and length, his defensive game was more advanced than his offensive game. He uses his length extremely well and had impeccable timing in blocking shots. On the offensive end of the court, he sports a soft shooting touch with proper shooting technique and mechanics. He has the ability to step out and consistently hit the 10-15 foot jumper. While Gainey will need to add additional strength, his upside and potential is through the roof.

FWIW, Davis Franks of Northfield Mount Hermon was visiting Brown this weekend for an official visit. He is noted to be a two-star 6'7" small forward at Verbal Commits.

Franks was given an offer by Brown near the end of June. Right now, VC has him listed with offers to Brown, Cornell and American.
