Looking at the above, here are the average rankings thus far:

1 Bucknell 3
2 Boston 9
3 Navy 10
4 Lehigh 11
5 Colgate 13
6 Loyola 18
7 Army 21
8 Holy Cross 23
9 Lafayette 27
10 American29

At the moment, I would pick them in the same order as the above, although I think HC could move up a bit if they get good play out of three freshmen.

The one somewhat strange pick is HoopTime slotting Colgate in at #2. In his defense, they do return all their starters, albeit from an underachieving second division team. Iirc, I think he picked them for a good finish last year as well. In 2015, he picked Bucknell for 5th (finished 1st) and Holy Cross for 1st (finished 7th). One disappointing thing in his write-up this year was a number of factual errors, such as saying the Bison return their top eight rebounders and confusing Bradley with Butler when discussing a Colgate transfer. Also incorrectly said LU's Jack Lieb missed his entire senior year of HS due to injury.

I think they're giving Lehigh too much credit. Remember they were 3rd last year and lose a lot of scoring. I'd pick them 6th or 7th. Also think Lafayette with be better than 9th, but maybe not much better. Otherwise, the aggregate rankings seem pretty close, definitely for the top 3.

And Kimbal Mackenzie will be 2nd team all-PL at least (only because they won't put 4 Bison on the 1st team).

Lehigh tied for 2nd last year and reached the championship game. That team underachieved and has graduated a fair amount of talent, as you say. But they also have added a fair amount:

- Guard Lance Tejada, a transfer from East Carolina who was highly recruited in HS (offers from Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Virginia, and a number of others). He did not play well at ECU, but potentially could be a strong PL player.
- JUCO transfer Ed Porter, a 6-7 PF who was also highly recruited in HS before schools backed off when he missed a year with a shoulder injury. Not that it means much, but he has a 3 star ESPN ranking.
- Caleb Bennett, a 6-5 wing who had offers from Northern Iowa, Buffalo, UTEP, ORU, and a number of others.
- Marques Wilson, a 6-4 wing who had offers from Iowa State, Bucknell, Evansville, Western IL, and others. (I suspect the Iowa State offer had been pulled for a long time prior to his commitment however.)
- James Karnik, a 6-9 center from Canada who picked up late offers from Canisius, Jacksonville, Northern Arizona, and a couple other mediocre programs.

Additionally they may get back two big men who have had to sit out since they got to LU due to various injuries:

- Caleb Sedore, a 6-11 center who had a Bison offer a couple of years ago. He has missed two years with two different ACL tears and is future is questionable.

- Jack Lieb, a 6-10 center who missed his freshman year and apparently is out again with related medical issues. Had offers from Loyola (IL), IL State, Siena, Niagara, Boston U, Lafayette, App. State, and a few others.

Adding the above to returnees: All-PL PG Kahron Ross, who had already made All-PL three times; All-PL candidate Kyle Leufroy; and two very good sophs (Pat Andree and Jordan Cohen) gives LU a lot of talent - the second most in the league imo IF they are healthy. But then add in the Brett Reed factor - which is why I drop them to 4th. That intangible was a factor last year as well, so things are equivalent between 2017 and 2018 on the coaching front.

Definitely possible. At this stage, there are nine others who seem likely to make one of the top two teams - Foulland, Thomas, K.Ross, A. Walker, Klinewski, Hankerson (if fully healthy), S. Anderson, and S. Nelson - so that leaves another spot. Some others in the mix for one of the teams might include:

- Rayman or O'Brien (Colgate) if CU has a decent year.
- Karl Charles (HC)
- Leufroy (LU)
- Cam Gregory (Loyola)
- Jordan Fox (Army)
- Someone from Boston U, if they finish 2nd or higher

None of the above jumps off the page as someone likely to be higher than 3rd team, however, but a good season can change things.

Yes, just missed him on the list. I said there were nine likely to make 1st or 2nd team but only listed eight. Should have said:

Mackenzie is certainly talented enough to make a first or second team, but there are only so many points and stats to go around on any team....and stats are def a large component when choosing these teams. But I think all players would take a PL championship number one and then playing in the tourney and winning at least one game there.

I would contact Bucknell's Athletics Communications and ask them for images you can use, or perhaps first find an image they've posted and ask permission to use it.

That was a good program. Overall, I am satisfied with the coverage. IMO, it is an improvement over previous years.

I enjoyed the interviews with Nana and Coach Davis. When I hear how well spoken Bucknell players are, it always gives me a good feeling.

Also, the interview with BU's Coach Jones was interesting. You might want to watch it starting around 16:40 where he talks about what makes Bucknell tough to beat. To paraphrase, he said, '5 all league caliber players, shoots it well, dominant force in the middle, best forward in the league (Thomas), and best player in the league (Foulland).'

GO BISON!

Kenpom.com 2018 preseason rankings:

75. Bucknell
163. Navy
174. Colgate
181. Lehigh
188. Army
224. Boston U
257. Loyola
268. Holy Cross
275. American
293. Lafayette

People have previously mentioned that Kenpom.com tends to be more accurate after the out of conference schedule, but still, it looks like the PL is VERY weak this year.

Matt Norlander ranks all 351 D1 teams and slots the Bison at # 72.

Lehigh is next at #157. "Brett Reed's going to prove again how good of a Patriot League coach he is, because this team is going to wind up top-three in the conference despite losing a star in Tim Kempton."

His comment about Reed is laughable. Reed is a great recruiter - and he will have good talent again this year - but he is very weak when it comes to X's and O's and in-game coaching.

If LU can find a center this year - which is a big question mark - then they could challenge for 2nd despite Reed's coaching.

I'll be surprised if Lehigh finishes higher than 5th. They have no front court and consistently under achieve. For some reason, they seem to have a lot of injury issues as well.

Your recollection is accurate. Muscala led the league in rebounding during his tenure (7.8 rpg) and was 7th in scoring (14.6 ppg) despite only playing 26 mpg since his coach gave everyone on the bench a lot of minutes. He hit about 55% on FG's and 87% on FT's. Even in three or four years, I doubt you will see Kempton putting up those types of numbers.

BU might have gotten weaker. Kyle Foreman, who had started 54 of the last 59 games at guard and averaged a team leading 4.5 assists per game last season, quit the team.

The following article states that he is still enrolled at BU which is very interesting:

He left the team back in mid-August, but it wasn't made public until about September 15th. They have an OK replacement in senior PG Eric Johnson, who has started a number of games, but his loss certainly affects their depth. The backup will either be 6-5 freshman CG Javante McCoy, who may not be ready to run the point at the D1 level, or else they will be forced to slide Cedric Hankerson over from the wing. A third option is SG Cheddi Mosely, who is back from being suspended most of last year - but he is really not a PG.
