Brown posted today: http://www.nycbuckets.com/2017/10/34-teams-in-3 4-d...

Dartmouth is out already. Rest of Ivies will come over the next month, interspersed with daily previews from other conferences.

Ok, MRJ, I'll bite. I thought NYB's analysis was very good. I am not on the CU Board so I won't speculate until I have actually seen the new guys perform. I do think Brown will be more athletic and better on D. The incoming group may well be MM's best, but that may not diminish the talent gap with H,Y,P & P. The rising tide may lift all boats the same amount, but some have bigger boats.

OB: I can't always tell when you are criticizing or simply observing the evolving state of Ivy sports. If the former, what do you believe is wrong and what do you believe should be done to rectify it?

As I have often said, HYP, and to a lesser extent, UP, have recruiting advantages. They win 9 of 10 when recruiting head-to-head against the rest of the Ivies. That applies to athletes and non-athletes, as well. The increasing AI limits the recruiting pool. The rest of the league has to get very lucky to compete and are unable to do so with any consistency. Take a look at the # of titles won in all sports over the last 10 years.

UP's current success with recruiting for the 2018 class throws that assertion into question. Time will tell, but it's possible that, particularly with the recent adjustment to the AI, that HYP now have insurmountable systemic disadvantages WRT to athletic recruiting. If that't the case, it will endanger the future viability of the conference.

Sorry-- rereading my post, I realize I should have said 'advantages,' not 'disadvantages.' As Emily Litella would say, "Oh, that's very different, isn't it?"

Mapes, old chap, how many 1 on 1's have the Quakers won with HYP over the last decade (I'll spot you Rosen). B,C,C and D don't win many with UP, either.

I think AJ Brodeur and maybe Matt Howard besides Rosen that I can think of?

After reading Ivy previews I'm struck by how young the league will be this year.

Other than Yale's Makai Mason - who should be considered a senior as he is graduating this year and moving on - not a single senior is expected to crack the three level All Ivy list. The only projected Senior starters are Yale's Mason, Princeton's Amir Bell, Penn's Darnell Foreman, Cornell's Wil Bathurst, Columbia's Nate Hickman (and maybe Kyle Castlin), Dartmouth's Miles Wright and Taylor Johnson and possibly Brown's Jason Massey.

Harvard's two seniors (Egi and Chatfield) were not part of last year's 10 man rotation and, with the hopeful exception of Egi providing defensive support when Chris Baker is off the floor, not much is expected this year.

With a strong and distributed freshman class and the class currently being recruited, this league is going to be even stronger next year. Having said that, this season - with three top 100 projected teams - should be competitive at the top and again for the 4th slot.
