USC has two extremely good players: 6'11" Metu, recruited by Harvard, who can shoot 3s', drive to the basket and slam dunk along with 6'1" senior PG who just tied Pac 12 record with 19 assists. Metu is probably the most talented player that they have faced this year. 2nd leading scorer, 6'10", missed last game and Tigers only slim hope is that he misses this game as they simply cannot handle height. Another top flight player is out -- FBI investigation. Other players are very talented although the sum of the parts is less than individual components. Who guards Metu? -- Stephens with help or Much/Brennan -- depends on if 6'10" Boatwright plays. Bell will take on PG in all likelihood. Not a good match up as Tigers always have trouble with height/power as Henderson plays small. Middle Tennessee will be a much better test as they are more representative of IL teams. One of these days, maybe tonight, the Tigers can lightening in a bottle against a very talented team but it will be very challenging to put it mildly. Tigers need to shoot very well to stay in the game. |

If Tigers keep the deficit under 14 it will be a successful night. Three games in 4 days over the weekend is scary...fatigue, injury factor. Nice trip for the kids. Hope they relax and have fun. Palestra right around the corner. |

Metu is also a shot blocker. USC is big, mixes man with zone. Saw them get beat pretty badly by SMU in Dallas, but they're good. Tigers will have to protect the ball, shoot well from three, and finish hard at the rim. When USC is in man, Metu should be drawn away from the basket. Defensively, the Trojans will not pick you apart with slick passing and ball movement, so Princeton needs to be aggressive doubling and helping on drives and post-ups. Get some deflections, box out like crazy. In a Saturday where-is-USC-now article, the L.A. Times mentioned Princeton only in passing as a "tune-up." Let's hope the Trojans are in the same mindset and that the Tigers come out loose and aggressive. |

As Rodney Dangerfield said "NO RESPECT". Besides being past my bed time, I do not have PAC 12 on my Comcast Infinity package and it does not look like the game is on ESPN 3. Hope that some Tiger fans watch a competitive game or at the very least, Tigers play very tough defense and move the ball versus one on one to build on the last two games. |

36-33 at the half. Proud of the guys and their effort. Even if they get blown out in the 2nd half, they didn't give up when USC made a big run. Post defense was quite good and aggressive (carrying over form Cal Poly) but USC started scoring at will on drives to the rim. Got roasted on 1-on-1 layups/bankers. Conversely, we're rolling every contested layup off the rim. USC is just better, so I'll be happy if the guys keep shooting confidently and bring the defensive energy. Don't make weak TOs. Get a shot off, make or miss. Don't let USC shoot over your passive hands. Get up in their grille and make them take contact and make FTs. |

Incredible. To take a punch like that in regulation, and get off the mat in OT on the road, that’s heart. And the big 3 plus Much and Derosiers holding their own against a big time opponent. Now we need to find three or four guys to fill out a rotation. Who wants to step up? |

MAJOR CONGRATS TO THE WHOLE TEAM. Never gave up. Didn't play scared. For me, the stat of the game is 19 PFs committed despite none in the last 8:30 of the game. I like that. It shows grit and energy. Minus two short stretches, the guys were aggressive tonight. Constant doubles inside, getting up into players' faces, and if you foul them? SO WHAT. USC only shot 65% from the line tonight anyway. Myles obviously carried the team across the finish line, but I was very impressed by Much and Desrosiers. Cal Poly or USC, they just look more comfortable now. Still some things to clean up, but the game is starting to slow down for them. |

Can someone who had TV coverage expand on why Walton was especially annoying tonight? I did - and I may be bias but in a tight game he becomes very dramatic. Examples: Tigers miss 2 of 6 or so free throws toward the end of the game. On those 2 misses, it's the end of the world and the "tigers deserve to lose the game" A bad inbound equates to "the tigers deserve to lose the game because they can't inbound" ...but then when they do the right thing, it's almost as if he forgot any of those mentions. |

Can someone who had TV coverage expand on why Walton was especially annoying tonight? I will say I was totally surprised on the amount of coverage Princeton got from a program perspective. PAC-12 Network spoke about a lot of history, including some big names from the past with portraits and stories. They also spoke a lot about Mitch and how he has changed the Princeton offense to what it is today. Nate Walton went to Princeton, so I think that had a big impact on the programming tonight. Lastly, there were A LOT of Princeton folks at the game b/w texts I had with people there and all the orange I saw on TV. Nate Walton estimated somewhere around 300 in a very empty arena. |

They forced someone else to beat them, and MH's strategy worked. Yeah, they were smothering him at that point. With about 5m left in regulation I'm pretty sure I saw Mitch shout, "No foul!" and that's when the guys went soft on Metu and he went off for 4 buckets. To be fair, we were up 7 and looking good, so I guess Mitch didn't want to give USC freebies with the clock stopped. But I'm always of the opinion that you stick with whatever got you the lead in the first place. |

Wow. Just like the FSU thriller from a few years ago, I can't watch the best game of the year. Hope there's a replay somewhere. Sounds like the Tigers followed the formula of doubling down low and USC indeed did not have that many assists. Box score standouts: Nearly equal shooting and rebounding percentages, but PU with way more trey attempts and more makes, and PU with eight more FTAs and FT makes. Much was muchly efficient out there and stuffed the scoresheet. Bell with 9 assists and 5 steals is huge. Cannady not shooting great but still effective with all those FTs. Stephens also efficient and prolific. Huge win, and very nice to see that the coalescing good play on both ends shown against Monmouth and then against Cal Poly was not a mirage. If they can further gel and get pieces like Gladson and Morales back, I can see some Ivy dominance. No Aririguzoh, no LeBlanc, and of course no Morales or Gladson in this game--I think this team ought to have enough depth for the Ivy season. |

I watched the game only up to the point where Tigers were up 20-14 and then checked the half time score on IPhone. It was good to see that Boatwright, 6'10" did not play although Mitch went with Brennan and Much in the starting lineup. Tigers came out confident and looked like the team of late although USC pushed them way out. Tigers did box out and fought for rebounds which was a good sign. Brennan was really disappointing as this game was clearly a game that needed to step up and he did not. He has talent but he does not translate on the court. Great win for Tigers. If anyone hears about a replay, let us know. Irony is that they may play USC again within the next week. Good night for Ivies and hopefully, league wide improved play is around the corner. The Big 3 are playing outstanding and confident basketball and Henderson/Kittles are coaching. |

Those 3 regulars have accounted for 28 points, 14 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game (Melton has yet to play this season). It was a great job by Princeton to pull it out after almost pulling a massive choke job in regulation. And USC will probably have a impressive resume by season's end. But that will probably be a very different team than the one Princeton played last night.

It really was nearly a colossal choke job--Princeton had total command of that game and it would have been ridiculous to have lost it. They did great in the OT and never looked back. |

Maybe Boatwright & co. will be back for Diamond Head. On to MTSU, a well-coached and talented outfit. |

I always get a kick out of coaches after a bad loss -- at least some of them. The two replacement players are 4 and 5 star recruits including the son and uncle of two all time UCLA players, O'Bannon -- I really feel bad for the USC coach. In fairness, if Penn won this type of game, there would be "dancing in the streets" especially in light of comments after the Dayton game. Perhaps, an Eagles fan?? There is no doubt that Princeton caught some breaks with USC injuries. It is only one game and Tigers could easily lose a rematch. Reality is what Walton commented as to how well the Tigers played because that is only what you can control. |

Nah--we've previously celebrated against USC in Los Angeles. That game also featured a corner 3 bank shot by Klatsky which defied the laws of physics. Penn vs USC, 2003. Koko returns home.

Gotcha -- a mere 15 years ago against a 13-17 USC team. |

Worth pointing out that a Charles O'Bannon was on the losing side for the last two Princeton wins against Pac 10 / Pac 12 teams. |

It was interesting to see Henderson pare down the rotation in an overtime game. Much and DesRosiers are core members of the team and Schwieger is going to get some playing time. In a perfect world, Morales and Gladson come back as you suggest and are probably part of the rotation if healthy. If they do not come back, Henderson may have to pare down to 7 for challenging games. Young and Brennan are playing their way out of the rotation even being seniors. LeBlanc may be coming back in. Obviously, the big 3 need to stay healthy. Coach certainly has time before the year-end foray at the Palestra as to finalizing the rotation assuming that they are in the hunt. Stephens, Bell and Much have really stepped it up over the past several games. Stephens brings something to the table that is un-Ivy like. |

And Much is adapting fast at the offensive end. Even his highlight reel from high school didn't prepare me for his ability to dribble past defenders, although it did show his great shooting form and excellent passing. He probably needs to catch up defensively some, but that will come. His growing into the game this season is hugely important. And yes, Stephens is not your typical Ivy player. In some ways he always reminded me of Wesley Saunders. And now that he's taking and making open treys, he's much more potent than he was and there is more space for everyone else to play. So he could be really great going forward. |

The Princeton game is probably why USC didn't make the NCAA Tourney. |

More like lost 2 of its 4 last games without its best player who won’t be back. So best to take those ratings with proper grain of salt that was deserved. |

They went 8-3 this year without Boatwright, and Metu and McLaughlin are both just as good, if not better players than he is. They also made a run to the finals of the Pac 12 tournament without him. What hurt USC is that their best win is probably NMSU or MTSU, both mid majors on a neutral court, they didn't knock off any of the top teams in the Pac 12, and they lost at home to Princeton. |

USC is way better than ASU, as they proved in conference play. They are a very good team, with or without Boatwright--Metu and the point guard are the key players. |
