First 250 students get free admission to the Cornell game.

But are students so lazy that they need to have an Uber ride back to the dorm or campus hangout?

Q - I’m going to assume this post is just a bit of tenporary insanity. It may have intended to be humorous, but it’s pretty offensive even to me and I’m not all that sensitive.

Of course, if Trump actually had a brain, he'd realize that the vast majority of Americans actually come from rotten places (or at least they were rotten at the time).

And that, of course, is a key factor in America's success.

[Sounding like an old geezer]

I have to ask - Uber rides to and from where?

Current students really can't walk from the Quad or High Rise North to the Palestra?

WTF? They can't walk to the other side of campus? How do they get to science classes?

I recall my bewilderment (in the late '80s) at stories of some people taking taxis from the High Rises to DRL. Never actually believed it.

Now I believe it.

I remember walking across Superblock (they don't call it that anymore) at 2 in the morning on weekend nights during the brutal winters of '77 and'78 and it being so cold that all I would do at some point is scream BRRRRRRRRR! at the top of my lungs and hear it echo throughout the canyon.

There was a game in the early 80s - I think against Dartmouth - when the weather gods dumped 2 feet of snow on Philly. We trudged over from Smokes to the Palestra like we always did, only it took about an hour to do it. Then back to Smokes afterwards.

Those were the days.

Remember--I walked from the Providence train station to Marvel gym through the closed off streets of Providence during the Blizzard of '78 to call the game. (we won 108-73 and I played Booney at blackjack back at the station afterwards)

No I don't remember you ever telling that story.

OK. It was a good story. But I don't remember you playing blackjack with Booney so the retelling would be worth it for just that one extra detail.

Played pixie tackle football outside Payne Whitney the day before the Yale game (we won 96-78) and then could only take Amtrak up to Providence--cars not permitted to go north of New Haven. Got there and the team was met by the National Guard, which gave them a ride up to Marvel but said there was no room for the XPN broadcasters or DP writers. They did carry our equipment, though. So we trudged up the hill, sliding back repeatedly, while I was forced to tell Loren Feldman (later editor of Philly Mag) to STFU as he complained the whole walk up. Got there soaked in sweat and then enjoyed an utter destruction of Brown. Same routine after the game and had to wait about 3 hours until the middle of the night to get the milk train back to New Haven, where the car was. Station was empty--so a bunch of us just hung out at the central console playing blackjack, with Booney wiping out a bunch of other players (I remember Bergwall in particular) and I just remember breaking even. Some now-legal substances may have been consumed. Great memories

At this point it’s a tie between this story and Harrison Gaines is God for most frequently spouted P38 tales. I swear I’ve heatd this one at least 5 times although certain tiny details change with each telling.

Uphill, both ways, etc.

Most of my epic Penn weather tales involve football--the only really good hoops one I can think of is driving through a blizzard going from H to D during the Great Victory Tour of '03. I haven't traveled to New England nearly as much as some of you have, though.

Wasn't the worst showing and the band tried really hard to show them what to do in the second half, but we're missing that group of diehards that we had even in the dark years.

As somebody who was on campus from 2006-2010, I can say definitively that the "dark years" didn't always have a collection of diehards. I remember actually counting for a game and I started 1/3 of chants myself. I really miss how fantastic it was in '06-'07 when I was sitting practically halfway up in section 216 and every seat in front of me was occupied all around the corner of the arena to behind the basket. Not 3 years later, you could hear a pin drop many nights. I'm forever grateful to have at least had that one banner year during my tenure at Penn.

It was never more than 5 or so, but there was always at least one row of regulars and as others would show up, they would take cues from that group. No question if we're talking diehards, it begins and ends with the band...even though I was sad we couldn't get a few over the break.
