Matt must not like the Palestra. His ORat last night was his season's low and his lowest since his last trip to West Philly. Which is the lowest of his career, save for goose egg he had at Pitt his freshman year. 3 of his 8 lowest ORats have been at the Palestra. The Quakers played a roll in that, obviously, but Matt's numbers against Penn at Newman have been fine.

16 turnovers. Some of that was the Penn D, but I thought it was more Penn alertly taking advantage of Cornell sloppiness. And no one could shoot other than Stone.

Penn's foul shooting and struggles on the offensive glass (until a late possession that seemed to never end) gave the guys a chance to steal one, but Penn always had an answer when it got tight. It's now 10 losses in a row to Penn. Harumpf.

Harumpf indeed. But don't you think that 'alertly taking advantage of Cornell sloppiness' is a component of defense?

Sure it is and there is nothing wrong with taking what the other team gives you. But I didn't think Penn was trying to force Cornell into turnovers as much as letting Cornell make mistakes.

I don't know that Cornell made as many mistakes as you think. Penn simply had a force field over the interior passing lanes. When Penn plays a combination of Foreman, Woods, Goodman and Betley in the interior and Rothschild and Brodeur inside, you simply cannot pass across the lane. Cornell (and in particular Morgan) likes to fly down the lane and kick it to one side or another. Penn continually got a hand on passes off of drives. Cornell had 16 turnovers---11 of them were steals. That's defense.

Gettings is a beast though. That was one of the best big man games I have seen against Penn in some time.

I purposely didn't watch the game. I swear that every time I watch Cornell play, either in a conference or OOC game, Morgan goes off for some ridiculous number of points, and Hatter was the only one able to slow him down.

When I don't watch, all bets are off.

Since I didn't watch I can't really comment on what happened last night but it wouldn't have been the first time this season when Penn has made an opponent look sloppy.

Best of luck against 6 of the other teams in the league.

Penn (11-5, 2-0 Ivy) 69
Cornell (6-8, 0-1 Ivy) 61

Box Score:

Gettings has a very good game - 20 points, 17 rebounds. Morgan was held to a season-low 13 points on 25% shooting.

Despite being outplayed most of the game and Morgan's offensive inefficiencies, the Big Red were able to make it a 4 point game a couple of times midway through the second half. Penn stopped the Cornell run and got the lead back to 14 with about 5 minutes to go. Thanks to some poor Penn FT shooting, the Big Red again got the game to 4 with just under a minute to go, but they could not hit any more shots and Penn scored a few FT to put the game away.
