Important home game here if the Tigers want to win this thing. On paper, PU should be fine. But Yale has good dribble penetrators and passes well, which always makes me nervous when there isn't a post defender to affect shots at the rim. Perhaps we'll see more of Gladson and Aririguzoh to give that presence. Stephens on Oni, Bell on Phills or Copeland, not too bad of matchups, but help better be ready, especially on Copelands drives down the right side of the lane.

Offensively, the Tigers have some opportunities. They can put five outside shooters on the floor without getting too small, and should have some drive and post-up opportunities on smaller Yale defenders. Just need to avoid the turnover bug and not shoot a horrible percentage from three.

Yale generally has good ball movement that can give their guys open shots if the Tigers do not play sound fundamental defense. They like to go to the middle and then dish out to the outside like the Tigers or give Atkinson a dunk shot if they do not switch quickly on the interior. Phils has become one guy that can take it all the way to the hoop. Yale will play tough and hard but their interior defense is not particularly good. For the Tigers good ball movement to get open 3 pt shots and contesting shots will probably be the key once again. It is very unlikely that this weekend will be like the Columbia/Cornell weekend but anything can happen in a given game.

Although a very important weekend to keep hopes up as to a 2nd IL regular season crown, the sad thing is that it is not a do or die weekend regarding the IL Tournament. IL Tournament and IL Digital network might take some of the buzz out of the regular season -- unfortunate.

Since I am interested in the regular season title (and less so, the top seed for the IL tournament), I'm still fired up for these tilts. But, yeah, the tension level is a lot less given the top-four structure.

Since everyone with the possible exception of the Tigers would be looking at a 15 or 16 seed, screw the Tournament. I want the real 14 game title.

Lunardi has Harvard (1/2 game up on Penn) as part of the play-in game if they are the Ivy representative.

(Followed by a date with Villanova if they win...)

Hopefully the Tigers will be at the top of the Ivy stadings shortly and we won't have to see this embarrassing projection anymore.

Losing at the P's is something all of the 4th place contenders are predicted to do. Thus, starting off 2-4 should not harm Yale's chances to make the tournament. Next weekend, Yale hosts Columbia and Cornell, games that Yale will need to win - and will be expected to win. That 2-4 start could quickly become 4-4, with or without Mason, leaving Yale in good standing. Could be that Yale hangs with Brown, Columbia and Cornell for a while in the standings, eventually grabbing the 4th spot, especially if and when Mason does return.

Assuming favorites prevail this weekend, 2-4 Yale would be chasing 3-3 Columbia and tied with 2-4 Brown and 2-4 Cornell. If Columbia doesn't beat Harvard at Levien, Yale could be in a 4-way 4th place tie with its best player still expected to return. All 4 squads would have completed the road weekend at the P's.

Silver lining: Mason's delayed return is giving the season meaning again! At least for a little while, and only for 4th place.

I am with you that the IL regular season still means the most to me. I hope that the regular season winner also wins the IL Tournament. Hopefully, each team will play with the goal to win the regular season vs. qualifying for the tournament.

It appears that three teams will compete for the regular season championship and two or three teams may compete for 4th place. Regular season championship should be a tough, hard fought battle.

If I was Tommy Amaker and Harvard is locked into the second/third spot entering the final weekend home games against Cornell and Columbia, I start Yoshor, Feinberg, Egi, Chatfield and Perez and assign Bryce and anyone else needing a rest or simply needing to rest any lingering injury to get those final papers done in order to avoid all nighters prior to the tournament.

Regardless, we know he is going to start Egi, Yoshor and Chatfield vs Columbia - Senior night.

What's with the Early Bird special time slot for Princeton this year--even for the Penn Game in a week and a half? Just reflecting the average age of the crowd?

Tigers seem like they consistently have difficult coming out of the break. Yale played desperate and well -- Tigers were very fortunate to win being down 10 pts in 2nd half with 12 minutes to go. Slow out of the blocks, end of the first half and especially the beginning of 2nd half -- fortunate to win. Big three did not get much help from the bigs -- especially Gladson and Much (11 minutes? -- may have been ill based on how he looked on the bench. At least, Brennan stepped up and so did Young.

Bell and Stephens played well and very hard.

Pulled a victory out the jaws of defeat.

DesRosiers is not afraid. Made some clutch players. Schwieger got zero minutes -- Much 11 minutes.

Both P's survived scares at home while h was upset in NYC. This is unfolding as a much tighter race than most predicted. Winning at home will be vital to the eventual champion. It will be interesting to see if either Brown or yale can repeat their tough play tomorrow night.

The rust was real and obvious (started 2-14 from 3!), but Bell and the vets carried us through. I love those 28ft rainbows from Aaron Young.

These freshmen really have nerves of steel. After missing two easy shots in a row, I was shocked to see Desrosiers take that high-pressure 3 late in OT. I thought he would be gun-shy and give it up to Cannady or Stephens. Nope. He had the look and trusted his shot. The future is bright.

That was a tense affair. Copeland and Phills were tremendous for Yale.

Hated the lack of flow on offense, the repeated unnecessary bad switches on D (would have been better off in a zone, frankly) but loved the grit and playmaking by the Princeton juniors and seniors down the stretch. Bell was spectacular, Stephens was impressive, Cannady made enough sneaky little plays like the tip on the rebound at the end, Young and Brennan played well with more minutes than I was comfortable with, Leblanc chipped in just enough. It's funny to realize that if they'd shot an average percentage from three that this game wouldn't have been close.

Gladson looked really tentative, Arirguzoh's timing seemed off, Much was nonexistent, and Schwieger nailed to the pine. Shows that having some upper-class depth comes in handy.

The ILDN scoreboard operator had a terrible game. How hard is it to keep an accurate number on the screen? FTs flummoxed them somehow.

We don't beat this team if Mason played. Jones is a fantastic coach. I was amazed how good their spacing was on offense, and how they were able to free up for one on one drives to the hoop.

I wondered about zone also, but probably we don't play it often enough to do a good job.

Speaking of zone, is the 1-3-1 extinct?

FWIW, Penn played a bit of the old 1-3-1 late in its game against the Brownies, to good effect. So there's that.

Tonight will be interesting. Four very tired teams, two of them likely to be pretty pisssed off.

Jones has indeed become a very good coach. His strategy of going small confused Mitch and the coaching staff for a while. Strikes me as the second time that Mitch has been out coached in IL play which is unusual. Yale presented match up problems for the Tigers as Penn did but for different reasons.

I agree that Yale would clearly have been the IL favorite this year with Mason and Bruner -- do not think that there are any outstanding IL teams this year -- dog fight. Oni is very good but he is an up and down player. Phils has really come up and Copeland would have been an incredible 6th man off the bench.

Bell, Cannady and Stephens (muscle cramp at the end of the game) played a lot of minutes so did Brown players. Hopefully, the Tigers big 3 will use their experience to get ready for tonight. Some other players need to step up.

Oni was "down" largely because Stephens and co. took him out of the game. It looked like the plan was not to let him beat the Tigers, even if that created more room for others. Early on, he and Stephens defended each other well, but eventually Myles's physical game wore him down and he picked up some fouls.

Tough, gritty win by the Tigers on a night that they looked pretty rusty, particularly on offense. Long stretches with very little motion and too much hero ball for my tastes. Yale was ready and picked Stevens clean at least four times and other Tigers as well. Stevens was fantastic on defense, though, pretty much taking Oni out of the game. And Bell played one of the best all around games of his career.

I generally don't mind DC firing from any where the spirit moves him to but a couple of his shots last night would have been considered forced even from Steph Curry. Petey would have swallowed a basketball if one of his players took the kind of jump back jumpers from 25' that DC cranked up last night.

Great to have Gladson back on the floor but he still has a way to go. He (and Brennan) made a nice hook shot early but he looked gassed after not a great number of minutes.

Very few minutes from Much, Schwieger or Richmond (can we give this guy a nickname? Zoh maybe?) so I expect we'll see more minutes from them tonight after last night's marathon (unless their minutes were down because dreaded bug has caught them).

Red Panda killed it at half time again!

Go Tigers!

I would think that Henderson would try to slow the pace of the game with Brown trying to speed it up. Slower pace may permit more minutes for the Big 3 plus it would take Bears out of their preferred tempo.

Stephens may be on Cambridge with Bell on Anderson at times. These two guys are essential on defense. DesRosiers has improved as a defender but is certainly no shutdown defender. Brown is a small quick team that plays with a lot of intensity. Defense is certainly a question mark plus they are very young.

Mitch's strategy maybe to attempt a grind it out win. Do not see the Tigers covering big spread unless Brown is exhausted from the tempo of play last night.

The most incredible thing about Red Panda, if you've been listening to Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter, is that her main unicycle was stolen recently....and he showed video of her being off her game. Apparently, Friday night she was using her backup unicycle--and so the fact that she CRUSHED IT was just that more amazing.

Good news: The Golden State Warriors are going to get her a new unicycle after the season ends: https://deadspin.com/rejoice-red-panda-has -a-new-c...
