This one was bad enough that you just have to let it go and move on. Hard to see how they can play like they did last weekend and then put this one up. But a young team coming off a semi-high can fall prey to not coming out with the intensity and execution you need to beat any team in this league. And you can’t have your starting 1-2 go 3-20. If there’s one takeaway it’s that Brown continues to struggle when bigger guys are pressuring the ball outfront. Hunsaker and Anderson were struggling with the press in the 2nd half - which was not in-your-face intense but it was more length than they had. On paper you’d think our quicker smaller guys would dribble through and tear that up, but they really struggled with it. Similar thing happened against Dartmouth when the Big Green went 3-2. I thought it was a great move by Earl to keep that light trap on to slow down any comeback. It actually gave Brown a window but one that they couldn’t open. That’s the move I would put up against Brown to slow down their dynamic trio.

Little to add, Bears played poorly at both ends. Credit for Earle controlling the pace, but it's easier to do when you shoot 60% from the field. The press didn't cause may TOs, but Brown failed to take advantage when they beat it. We need Anderson and Hunsaker to score to be effective. Let's hope this was just a one-off. |

what I saw from the press was not TOs but slowing down the progression of the ball, and it not leading to enough open looks. It really took Brown out of their flow. Offense wasn't getting set up until there were 16 seconds left on the shot clock. They have a hesitation to pass the ball north-south when there's the length is right in front of them, and that's exactly what happened vs. Dartmouth on their comeback. We need a better way to get the ball into the middle and then back out to the wings again. Defense sucked. It wasn't just good shooting. There were open shots and open lanes. But defense wasn't that strong last weekend either - it was the offense that carried them, and last night it was stunted.
