Cornell starts the weekend tied for 4th with Columbia and Brown at 4-6. Statistically, they are noted to be the third team in that 4th place group.

The Yale Undergraduate Sports Analytics Group has the Big Red with a 26.2% chance of making the Ivy Tournament and an 18.4% chance of being the #4 seed, behind both Columbia and Brown.

For tiebreak #1 (head-to-head), Cornell is 1-1 with Columbia and 1-0 against Brown.

For tiebreak #2 (record against teams #1-8), Columbia has a win against Harvard (tied 1st) and Brown has a win against Yale (3rd). Cornell's best wins have come against 4th place Columbia and Brown.

As a result, the games this weekend are incredibly important. Over at the Yale Undergraduate Sports Analytics Group, they have an item called the Playoff Swing Factor, which is a statistic that measures the total change in all eight teams’ playoff odds based on the result of a given game. The group lists the Cornell-Brown game in the highest Pseudo Playoff Game category, while the Cornell-Yale game is in the second highest Playoff Havoc Wrecker category.

With the students back from a short February break and the men's hockey team on the road to close out the regular season, the only direct competition is the women's hockey team going up against Princeton in the ECAC Quarterfinals (Fri at 6 pm and Sat at 3 pm). Hopefully, the students can show up in decent numbers and give the team some support.
