Yep, ye olde matchup zone and some good old-fashioned defensive intensity worked wonders tonight. Except for too many ORs given up, it was impressive. I can't remember so many blocked and altered shots at the rim while still getting out (mostly) to the three-point shooters. One early horrible pick-and-roll screwup had me worried that that trend would continue, but after that the D was very good. Seemed like Cannady just let the face-guarding take him out of the offense in the first half, but then he took the game over for five minutes in the second half. And he had that hilarious will-he-dunk-or-will-he-w hiff basket toward the end. Bell and Stephens dominated the game on both ends--when they are both good like that at the same time it's powerful. Desrosier had a very solid performance. Where was Much? Brennan did some good things, but man he is not good at avoiding fouls and also people can knock the ball out of his hands from behind when he stops to figure out what to do. Gladson serviceable in there, too--I thought that hook shot might go down. And as I fantasy-predicted on another thread, Columbia proving that it will slip on every available banana peel with the loss to Dartmouth. Now we just need the Cantabs to defend their home court while the Tigers bring their newfound intensity to Yale and make this fourth-place nonsense interesting. |

Do we own the tie-breaker over Cornell? Regardless, I hope their double overtime game at Harvard plus tonight's bus ride has them heading into Hanover tired and ready to lose. Gotta figure Harvard takes care of business tomorrow against Columbia with the league title on the line. Who owns the tie-breaker between Penn and Harvard? Of course, all we can do is worry about Yale who I also hope is worn out from tonight's battle with Penn. |

I refuse to invest in all the scenarios, but I got the impression that sweeping and having Columbia swept is what we need. |

Yes. Tie-break is record against top team, then #2, etc. Columbia has a win against Harvard so they would get in over Tigers if they both win or both lose tomorrow. Tigers and Red both 0-2 against Penn and Harvard but Tigers have win over Yale so they would have tie-break over Cornell if they end up tied. |

Is the same true in terms of determining the #1 seed for the tournament, meaning if Penn and Harvard both win tomorrow, Harvard would be seeded #1 for the tournament because of Penn's loss to Yale tonight? |

And now the season comes down to a most improbable final game scenario in which the Tigers (assuming Harvard holds serve with a chance for the regular season title) control their tournament destiny. Beating Yale in New Haven has not been a Henderson strong suit, although our most recent visit resulted in a Cannady three point deluge and a double digit Tiger blowout. Obviously, that is unlikely tonight, particularly since Cannady has mostly disappeared in the last two weeks. Last season the Tigers beat everybody twice, Penn and Yale three times. Tonight's game at Yale presents the last chance to sweep an Ivy foe this campaign. It also presents an opportunity to take Amir Bell off the hook. One of the wildest games in a season full of them gave James Jones a very satisfying win last night over the Quakers. We all know his team does not want to allow the Tigers to get into the tournament by losing at home. Should be a great battle between two excellent basketball minds. Meanwhile, a close loss once again prompts our Quaker brethren to ask for an investigation of the game officials. Just like the old days! |

Seemed like Cannady just let the face-guarding take him out of the offense in the first half. Desrosier had a very solid performance. I continue to believe they are using Cannady as a decoy to go 4 on 4 with the others, and get them involved. No one has mentioned yet another foul shot air ball, this time by Stephens. Agree on Desrosier--he looks like he can go one on one in the post a la Stephens. |

I believe that Coach has asked Cannady to get more players involved by toning down his shot taking. Mitch has also clearly limited Much's time as he was throwing up a lot of 3 pt shots. Cannot take Cannady out of the offense because the Tigers would be playing 3 on 4 on offense based on a limited 4th option. Bell and especially Stephens have taken on a much more active offensive role and DesRosiers vs. Much or Schweiger is getting the minutes. DesRosiers is a player, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Will the Tigers beat Yale on the road --- big question mark? Can the Lions beat Harvard --- big question mark? Whatever one thinks, the opposite will happen. I simply hope that the Tigers play well and finish the regular season on a better note. |

If Princeton has the same defensive intensity (the Brown announcers picked that up even in the huddles), the same decent FT shooting, and the same care with avoiding turnovers tonight, then I think they will sweep Yale. But it will be close because Yale's offense is pretty versatile. |

I was really done with this team a few weeks ago but they have played much better basketball the last three games. Failing down the stretch against Harvard was painful to watch but that was a much better showing than previous efforts. Can they win tonight? yes. Will they? who knows?! Will I drag myself to the Palestra if they pull this thing out? of course! |

Brown announcers were so much better than the "homer" from the past although they obviously did not have much knowledge regarding Stphens' capabilities offensively. Some Brown fans were big proponents for IvyMadness. It was surprising as to the extremely as to what appeared to be a very small turnout. |
