They have to take Goodman out if we're not pushing it up the floor.

Brodeur having some tough luck on a few shots.

Right now Harvard seems to have our number, sadly. But we're better than this so I expect the margin to eventually go down.

I am nothing if not the master of understatement.

Darnell and AJ are just carrying us right now, AJ on both ends.

Wish I could be there. What a changed atmosphere over the past 15 minutes.

Until the last few minutes of the half, though, Harvard was beating Penn at its own game. Denying the 3 to us (or at least the folks it did not want to see shooting it) while it was making its own share of 3s.

They've also kept the pace perfect for them. We have not been able to push the ball to get transition opportunities.

22 straight points. 3 straight baskets by AJ, the first one a dunk, then Betley, who passed up an earlier 3 in the possession, lets one go from around the same spot and the Palestra is just....awesome.

Foreman's offensive efficiency the past 10 games is just amazing. If he had played like this all year long he'd be 2nd team IL at minimum.

Foreman has been awesome.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the college game is becoming more like the NBA in that there are big runs by teams during the games? Not sure if that is backed up by any actual data but seems that way to me.

Likely to be a single digit contest from here on in.

7 point Penn lead with Woods to shoot 2. We really suffer on both ends when AJ, Betley and Foreman are out.

Towns goes down with 8 minutes to play. In a lot of pain--looked like his knee.

Penn up 10 at the 8 minute media time out. Really need to make sure AJ does not pick up a quick 4th foul....his presence is very, very necessary.

How #%$@ awesome was that? IVY CHAMPS and NCAA bound! I think I lost 5 pounds sweating bullets on my couch the last few mins but totally worth it. My wife and baby were both sleeping so I had to use ninja like abilities to contain my reaction and jump up and down on the inside. Special shout out to the seniors Foreman and Wood stepping up!

What does this even mean, Charlie? Stop being a punk. I nailed everything about this season for Penn (Foreman better than Woods, Woods' ORAT, a 130ish KenPom rating, Brodeur's All Ivy).

I just dramatically overestimated the power of the league. Hell if anything, I understated it because at the time, I didn't realize Princeton was a 200 KenPom team. It's wonderful to have been wrong about that.

That was a game for the ages. I can't say enough about this team.

I'm feeling real bad about Seth Towns. Hoping it's not the news I expect it's going to be.

And I love you Jeff, but when you miss the most important thing about the season then you can't say you nailed it.

PS - I'm trying to figure out anything Charlie said that was offensive. Or maybe has ever said.

PPS - Nice article, Kevin. And for all your articles all year - you're a must read.

I didn't say offensive, I just asked where he was going with his pointless "all that happened" bull. You're right, he's never offensive. And the next time he makes an insightful point about basketball will be the first.

I don't see how picking their KenPom rating, if anything being a bit optimistic makes it a bad prediction. I missed Harvard and Yale's best players missing the season. Sorry? We all guessed wrong on Princeton's severe mediocrity.

But this isn't about me, this is about Steve and the players winning a championship that no one predicted.

En route home to CT. This was an expensive weekend, but was it ever worth it. The Palestra rocked like it used to, and Foreman proved to be a classic Big Five guard who was at his best when the team needed him desperately. Great team win. Three more years of AJ. How sweet is that? Great coaching job by SD all year and especially this weekend. This weekend at the Palestra was one for the ages. Beautifully done, Quakers!

I just got home from Philly, too. This was one hell of a day, and a great weekend for Penn basketball.

The game was a rockfight from start to finish. But you know something? I was in the Palestra while the teams were warming up, and our guys looked loose and confident. Foreman especially had that "I'm not going to let us lose" look on his face. Sheer [REDACTED] determination.

And the first half was the Darnell Foreman Show.

I was relieved when we made that run to close out the first half with the lead, and startled when we opened the second with two shots to the solar plexus. AJ's flush from the left baseline off Max's feed was gorgeous.

I hope Towns' injury isn't serious. As much as you never like to see anything like that happen, my first two thoughts were that the game was ours, and that Harvard wouldn't go out without making a serious run.

Note also that Corey Johnson was held scoreless on 0-1 from three. The guards did a nice job denying him good looks.

It was great to feel the energy in the Palestra cranked up again. It felt almost more like a Big 5 game than an Ivy game, to be honest.

And now on to face Kansas.

Agreed about both teams looking loose. I also liked the sportsmanship all weekend, as silly as it sounds. Thought the Penn guys reacted with genuine concern when Towns got hurt, and there were quite a few instances of helping opponent’s up, etc. Just a great environment.

Perhaps the most underrated part of today. They looked like they have the potential to be real fans, and it was a nice turnout. You could tell from the net-cutting that maybe 10% had a clue who they were looking at, but that's ok. It's how you build back a program.

Yes, it is called the Bus MacDonald Inspirational Player Award, named after a Penn player from the 1930s. It's given to the "player who most closely approaches the example of unselfish devotion to the sport that endeared Bus to his teammates."

I have no argument with your nomination of Darnell, who has gotten better each season and really stepped up his game over the latter part of the season.

Not very often. Her seats are in the same row that I sit in. I think that she personally may have been to 2 or 3 games during the season though there are TWELVE seats which obnoxiously have "Reserved for the Office of the President" signs on them (and are often used).

Anyone else go back every once in a while a rewatch some of this one? I can't get enough of the end of the first half and the back to back Caleb 3's. How Darnell ended his Penn career still blows me away and watching that performance while now knowing it's on a stress fracture just adds to the lore. Heart of a champion. He doesn't have the opportunity to play anywhere, does he?

Foreman is good enough to play somewhere if that's what he wants - lesser players have found landing spots. There are all sorts of levels of leagues in just about every country.

Not everyone wants to do that though.
