That's excellent news. Need to have some top tier games, particularly with no in season tournament.

Penn hosting Miami at the Palestra next season.

We need some stronger SOS for the IL teams!

Oh wow, that's awesome that Miami is playing at the Palestra - I'm sure it is for Walker who is from Philly.

Especially nice for me since my little brother went to Miami! Too bad we both live in Los Angeles, haha.

Harvard’s OOC SOS was around 70th the past season, maybe better - including at KY, Minn, and St Mary’’s. Princeton and Yale had reasonable SOS also. If I remember correctly, Brown and Penn had sub 300 OOC SOS. Given the talent there, those squads need to pick it up.

Generally, the league missed quality wins - except for Brown over Providence.

Hopefully the Crimson can start stronger next season. I think the coaches learned a lot about how to use the guys as the season went on.

Penn's was 249, so certainly bad, but not bottom 30 you're suggesting. Absolutely will be better next year by all accounts and expect Coach Donahue will be back to pre-dark ages SOS on a consistent basis from there.

Penn's RPI SOS was 293. NCSOS was a little better at 273.

Penn's real SOS slightly better (260) and NCSOS was 249.

But the RPI numbers are on the team sheets and that's likely what landed Penn in the 16 spot.

Harvard's RPI numbers were 152 and 79, for SOS and NCSOS, respectively. KenPom was very similar. Wasn't really any Ivy close to those numbers from an SOS perspective.

Mike, were these numbers overall?
I know I though Penn’s SOS was lower in late December - right after Delaware St. I recalled Brown an Penn to be the outliers. Probably helped those teams to develop.

Right, HDG mentioned out of conference being 300+ so that’s why I posted the 249 from Kenpom for NCSOS. That’s also the only one he team can really control. The conference SOS just is what it is.

I only follow/reference his #s and don’t follow RPI at all until maybe the NCAAs.

HDG - I’m sure the SOS was worse after Del State. They were the worst team we played and afterwards our schedule still had Toledo, Temple, and St. Joe’s so wouldn’t make sense to judge at that point until it is a complete picture.

Don’t get me wrong, the NCSOS was still very subpar/weak. I do think it helped the team learn to win after being bad for so long so was totally OK with it this year. Next year looking forward to a more difficult schedule.

The RPI numbers I pulled were from the selection team sheets, so those were basically the final ones used on Selection Sunday.

I could go back and check the team sheets from that time, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was 300+ right after the Del St game. The only teams left were Toledo, Temple and St. Joe's, which all would have brought that SOS up.

Makes sense. I don’t have access or ability to calculate, so My OOC SOS snapshot was taken before first Princeton game. Seems Penn’s SOS consists of (a) variable OOC, (b) Big 5, and (c) Ivy League. Big 5 games at tail end surely lifted Penn’s OOC SOS and, ironically, so would in conference schedule.

I assume that if any Ivy wants to build a resume than OOC SOS must be greater than overall SOS.

It’s really hard to build much of a resume without multi-team events, and the stupid Ivy 2-in-4 rule is killer there. That being said, unless something changes with the committee, it’s basically impossible to build a good enough mid-major resume. You need to be perfect from day one, and even our best teams of recent memory (Cornell 2010, Harvard 2012, Harvard 2014, Yale 2016) would have all likely been short.

Aside from some potentially interesting, regional mid-major matchups, I think that's the meat of the non-conf schedule for the Crimson next year.

A decent schedule, but not an at large caliber schedule.

Yale (Dec. 8) and Princeton (Dec. 18) play at Duke. Harvard plays at UNC (Jan 2).

Assuming this is intentional on Amaker's and Coach K's part?

Harvard will play at UConn in a closed door scrimmage at the end of October.

https://www.ctpost.com/uconn/article/UConn-m en-s-b...

- The Huskies will also play Harvard in a closed-door scrimmage at the end of October at Gampel Pavilion. The game is closed to the public but will feature a scorekeeper and four referees and played with game-like intensity. First-year UConn coach Dan Hurley played several closed-door scrimmages against Harvard while at URI. The Crimson are coached by Tommy Amaker, the former Duke star and ex-coach at Seton Hall, Hurley’s alma mater. Harvard is expected to be the team to beat in the Ivy League this season. -

The men's and women's teams will take part in Crimson Madness this Saturday night (10/13/18) at 7:00 pm.

It will be broadcast on ESPN+

It will be interesting to see if Towns and/or Aiken take part in the event.

ESPN+ got to admit im envious. I haven’t heard if my Big Green are even introducing the teams this year. I’d be happy with a ILDN or a YouTube stream.

The women start the season on Friday night on the road against defending national champions, Notre Dame.

ND Insider has a profile of Harvard co-captain Madeline Raster, who is from South Bend.

It looks like the game is available for viewing from the WatchESPN, not ESPN+.

The 1/6/19 game vs McGill has been cancelled.

https://www.gocrimson.com/sports/mbkb/2018-19/r ele...

According to a 12/21 tweet from a member of The Crimson, the game was cancelled because the team had too many games on its schedule and it had not been approved by the Ivy League.

That leaves Harvard with games at Mercer on 12/29 and UNC on 1/2 before the 1/12 opener at Dartmouth.
