Good luck to a heady player and, from all reports, a very nice young man. It hurts that we didn't have his play for all of a year ago and for much of this last year. |

Wow! I'm excited for Kyle and wish him great success at Xavier and thereafter. I'm also impressed, but not surprised that he had at least two powerhouse programs--Xavier and Ohio State--vying for his services. Their interest certainly validates the very high opinion of Kyle that all of us on this Board shared throughout his career at Columbia. Good Luck again to him! |

Apparently Xavier used Levien when waiting to play in MSG. Perhaps a connection was made then. Anyway, a very good person.

I am very happy for Kyle. Just a shame that he had to lose 1 and 1/2 seasons. |

It goes to show the caliber of player Kyle bought in. 2 grad transfers to power 6 programs, Lo, who could have played anywhere, Smith, Meiesner, who will play pro overseas, Rosenberg, who is playing pro overseas. Of course, as is normal in the Ivy too, there are the misses - Stephens, Eberle, Hunter, Gilson, but Kyle definitely had more hits.

If "Kyle Smith recruited Rosenberg" is repeated enough times, does that eventually make it true? |

Smith also recruited Mullins, who lost a season and a half to a concussion but was a tremendous player. I don’t know the story of Rosie’s recruitment but always assumed that he was a Smith recruit. |

If I recall oorrectly, Alex Rosenberg committed to Joe Jones then did a year at Peddie and arrived for Kyle's first year in 2010-11. |

That's correct. Rosenberg committed during the Jones era.

A little late in posting, but here is a very nice profile of Kyle Castlin at the Cincinnati Enquirer. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/college/ xa... - Rodney Castlin put a basketball in his son’s hands when he was a toddler, and when Kyle was 4-years-old in Marietta, Georgia, Rodney was shot and killed. “My mom was pregnant with my little sister and my father was working a night job at a hotel and someone just came in and robbed it,†Castlin said. “Basically, my father was trying to help a desk clerk, who was a woman by herself at the front, and I think just seeing a man, whoever the robber was panicked and just shot. “So my father passed away when I was 4 years old. My mom was really good at taking care of me and my little sister, working multiple jobs. She worked real hard so I try to make her proud.†- - Kyle’s been a great leader because he’s real, he’s authentic. He has an impact on our guys. It’s real life stuff, it’s bigger than basketball. Kyle’s seen that and unfortunately, he saw that way too early. Kyle lives every day like it’s his last because of that. “I thought he was a good player. I watched a lot of film on him. I knew his character level was really good. Obviously, he went to a great school, Columbia. “But I did not know we were getting what we got. Sometimes it’s hard to come in and be a grad transfer and all the sudden be a leader. I think that’s really unique. He’s trying to figure out his teammates, figure out the system, the staff, the surroundings. Everything’s different. Kyle acts like he’s been here for four years. He just fits in. He’s done that from day one. There wasn’t a feeling out process … our guys respected him immediately.†- |

Thanks rbg for posting the article on Kyle Castlin. I knew what happened to Kyle as a four year old before I read the Cincinnati story, but it still brought tears to my eyes. He is just great young man and we wish him well. |

Great article. I didn't know about his sister's stellar track career, either. Speedy family. Hope he stays healthy and has a great season. |

https://www.bannersontheparkway.com/2018/10/31/180... - Best case scenario: Castlin is healthy and productive and provides valuable leadership around the perimeter. A career 36.4% shooter from deep with a reputation as a solid defender, he is the first man off the bench and an invaluable glue guy. The 10/6/4 with just 1 turnover he dropped on Nova when at Columbia is more or less what fans come to expect of him in a Malcolm Bernard role. Worst case scenario: He battles injuries all year. Xavier isn’t super deep at guard, but Castlin is slowed by the same troubles that have plagued him throughout his career. He shows signs of why he was brought in while he’s able to play, but he has trouble getting up to speed and never finds a stride. Most likely scenario: Bart Torvik has him down for 7/3/1 with a low usage rate but high efficiency, and that seems about right. He’s probably never going to be asked to be the primary scorer on the floor for the team and, with the luxury of picking his spots, he’s able to consistently get shots he likes. He’s a solid glue guy for a team in transition. - |
