Syracuse has announced a home game against Cornell on Saturday December 1st.

Last year's matchup, a nail biting 77-45 Orange victory, was the first with Syracuse's Coach Jim Boeheim against Cornell's Jimmy Boeheim. This year's game will feature a 3rd member of the family, as son #2 Buddy Boeheim joins Syracuse.

The Orange have won the last 38 meetings between the two teams. On a brighter note for Cornell fans, the Big Red men's lacrosse team went to the Carrier Dome and beat Syracuse 10-9 in the NCAA Quarterfinals last Sunday.

With Chanukah starting the night of December 2nd, the team will need their own miracle to take down Syracuse and prevent the streak from reaching 39.

The Hampton University women's team announced that it will be visiting Cornell on 12/29/18. The Pirates will then travel to Columbia for a 1/2/19 game. This will be the first-ever meeting between Cornell and Hampton.

http://hamptonpirates.com/news/2018/7/18/womens -ba...

The Pirates were 18-14 overall and 12-4 (3rd Place) in the MEAC Conference. They lost to NC A&T, 72-65 (OT), in their conference tournament finals.

Hampton, one of the nations's premier HBCU schools, left the MEAC and officially became part of the Big South conference on June 30th. With the move, Hampton becomes the only HBUC school in the Big South.

Wake Forest announced its non-conference schedule and it includes a visit by Cornell on 1/2.

Nice way to play in NC for the two seniors from the state, and pretty close to Matt's hometown of Concord.

I hope you are right, but the schedule normally labels exhibition games as such.

At least there aren't any USCAA games this year.

Gotta wonder if someone is making Earl play Ithaca? Absolutely nothing to gain & a real hit to credibility if the game is competitive.

Ithaca probably has a puncher's chance. They're called The Bombers for a reason.

Since the regular season does not start until November, I'm pretty sure the October 30th game vs Ithaca College is an exhibition. Last year, they played a preseason game against local SUNY Cortland.

The question may be why do they have 2 official games against Division III opponents, SUNY Canton in the Central NY Classic Tournament on 11/8 and Johnson & Wales on 1/4? Looking at the last several years, Cornell has only played one non-Division I game and that includes 2014-2015 when they played 30 games and 2012-2013 when they played 31 games.

IC doesn't even list the game on their schedule, which is another good indication that it is just a scrimmage.

SUNY-Canton is listing the Cornell game as an Exhibition.

In many cases, it is an official game for the D1 school and an exhibition for the D3. I am sure that is the case here.

The Big Red beat IC 98-61 last night. Unfortunately, there is no available box score and it does not appear that the game is/was available on ESPN+.

https://cornellbigred.com/news/2018/10/30/mens- bas...

- Matt Morgan scored a game-high 22 points and added three rebounds, three assists and three steals for the home team, while Jimmy Boeheim (16 points, five rebounds) and Jake Kuhn (11 points, five rebounds) were also in double figures. In all, 15 different Cornell players scored and the bench tallied 59 points on the night.

Jack Gordon had nine points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals and Josh Warren notched eight points for a Big Red team that had 21 assists. Steven Julian recorded a team-best six boards. -

"Earl kept a relatively tight eight-man rotation until about 12 minutes left in the second half when junior college transfer Chaz Mack entered the game."

The article didn't mention the eight names, but I'm guessing: Morgan, McBride, Whiteside, Julian, Boeheim, Gordon, Warren and Kuhn. Curious if Mack can turn that into a nine-man rotation over the first month of the season.

I would agree with you on that.

The one and two guards would be Morgan, McBride, Whiteside and Gordon with Davis available.

Having Boeheim on the wing is probably better than having him playing down low. With his height, he could be a benefit at guarding against the three. Kuhn would be a good backup.

That would leave Julian and Warren to start at the forward spots with Mack, McCarty or Voss. If necessary, Boeheim can play there.

Thinking about that rotation....

The backcourt is solid: Matt is one of the best players in the league; McBride could break out if gets a bit more aggressive with his offense, at worst he is a fine pass-first PG; if healthy, Whiteside is a solid all-around player; Gordon can help if he is shooting well from outside; and Davis can give you a few minutes of good D a night. That's a workable rotation, if only because Morgan is special.

But that frontcourt is thin. Julian is a solid and efficient forward, but after that it gets dicey. Warren is probably best suited to be a rotation guy who spells the starter. As you said, Boeheim is probably better suited as a wing -- regardless he needs to shoot better than 44% from 2pt and 13% (!) from 3pt. Kuhn has some potential, but he struck me as more big shooting guard than true forward when I saw him last year. The team really needs one of the JUCO forwards (or Dickson, but my guess is that he is too raw to help this season) to step up the way Julian did last year.
