He is two years away--recruitment class of 2020.

More immediately, though we don't know what it means (pursuing a last minute recruit, dissatisfaction with what they've got, or just a routine delay), they are late with the
announcement of this year's recruits. Last year, it was released June 12th. Now it will be at least a week late, and we can't help but wonder if there will be any surprises.

I haven’t seen any Ivy announcements yet. All Ivy FN announcements are out. PS, we have another great football class.

Although there has been no official announcement on the Columbia Athletics website, it is well-known that Columbia's Women Basketball Coach, Megan Griffith, has recruited an outstanding incoming class. Men and Women's Tennis, Women's Soccer, Wrestling, Softball, Baseball, and perhaps some other sports also appear to have outstanding classes. Men's Basketball is the major question mark with two very good known recruits, but seemingly no one else, except for the West Coast transfer who probably needs to sit out a year. Given that we are now in the middle of June, it certainly would be a huge surprise if the Lions have locked in any other high quality men's basketball recruits.

Of course, Al and his staff have recruited an outstanding football class.

Why no official announcement yet on the incoming class?

Ouch! No positive surprises. I assumed that the Columbia coaching staff would add a significant center recruit to the roster who would be eligible to play immediately. That's not happening. Thus, the Lions have no apparent back up for Patrick Tape at the center position. What that means is that unless Brumant or Eberle are ready for prime time, Meisner and Nweke will be the two back-up centers by default. And given that Meisner prefers to play forward than center, that means Nweke is likely to get plenty of playing time his freshman year.

Basically, it's just Ellis and Nweke.Millstein is probably a legacy recruit who will never play much, and the transfer won't comepete for playing time with Tape until 2019-2020. Tape had better remain healthy or we will have trouble up front.

No surprises. Two good players, one of whom looks like a scorer and the other of whom looks like a banger. So here is how I see it. If either Smith or Meisner goes down we are cooked. We need Tape to step up. I think he is a very athletic guy with a big upside. I also like Tai Bibbs’ potential based upon what he did in HS and how he looked before he was injured. Adlesh can score, Davis can play defense, Killingsworth is a heady swing man, and Stefanini plays hard. I would like to see if Brumant has made any improvement. Hunter can do everything except score; maybe he has developed an offensive game over the summer.

One question: is there a limit on the number of basketball recruits that an Ivy School can designate as recruited athletes? For football it is 120 over a four year period.

First of all, Verbal Commits is not an outlet of journalism that attempts to confirm what it posts; some of the listed "offers" are real and some are not.

Second, a coach from the Kyle Smith era told me that although it varies from year to year, in general approximately 20% of initial offers end up coming to a school. A different coach from a different staff told me that in the Ivies, 20% may be high because of all of the additional Ivy hurdles to admission.

Third, some coaching staffs try to prevent publication of offers; others don't care one way or the other.

While it is not mentioned on the Verbal Commits site, this Chicago Tribune article about recent Harvard commit Ciarin Brayboy mentions that his high school teammate, Spencer Boehm, is looking at Dartmouth and Columbia as his top two schools.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/winnetka/spo...

Boehm's older brother, Connor Boehm, played for Dartmouth from 2012-2016 and his older sister, Jeannie Boehm, presently starts for Harvard's team. Spencer is a 6' 8" power forward and, like Brayboy, was named All-Area Honorable Mention by the Pioneer Press.
