A third commit for the 2019 class. He is a 6'4" combo guard. Eric Kessler with the tweet:

Is it my imagination, or is there a striking similarity between the kinds of players pursued by Steve Donahue and Jay Wright?

Definitely looking for versatile perimeter players who can play multiple positions and shoot from range. We seem to have that covered in this class and Jonah Charles seems to fit that bill as well.

Now Steve's focus should be on the front court.

How about a PG? Someone has to feed all these shooters.

They definitely are looking for a PG. But given where the staff is spending their time according to the twitter machine mostly, they seem to believe there are better prospects in the next class. Not sure why but it seems to be an off year for Ivy PGs this year.

One thing's for sure--we are recruiting taller guards. Just look at the frosh and sophomores for the coming year--have we ever had a collective group so tall?

They seem to be in the mix for a bunch of 2020 PGs. By then, Devon will have graduated and Jelani may or may not be around.

Tall guards with quick feet are hard to shoot 3's over.

I watched his videos on youtube. It was hard to tell much because most of his highlight videos are of him shooting 3s. He clearly is confident to shoot from range. His shot seemed a bit old school - it's sort of a two part stroke and a bit flattish. He has a rhythm downward motion before his upward stroke and a slight hitch getting the ball in shooting position. Clearly that can work, although it may expand his shot release time a bit. That is mitigated by a pretty quick lift from his feet. His shot seems a bit more modeled after Ray Allen than Steph Curry.

He was referred to as the best shooter in NJ, but I couldn't find stats to back that up - the stat pages I saw only had shots made, not attempted. He didn't exactly pack the stat line, although he had a pretty good balance of stats.

On the video he looks athletic but not overly. I liked watching his training videos on ball handling.

It was hard to see much about his defense.

I'll assume this is a good get - after all, we're going to need players who can put the ball in the hole. We won't get points for coming close!

Blurb from Hoopgroup at AC tourney:

Jonah Charles (2019, Shoreshots): The Penn commit has shown why he is going to be a Quaker in 2019. The 6’3 guard from Rutgers Prep has hit a stride during the live period and since his commitment it seems like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders and is putting up big numbers. In his most recent game sets he had 4 triples for 14 points versus Team Final Red.
