European play started recently. Here is an update on how some Bison alums are doing: ZACH THOMAS: Zach had two OK games to start the Belgian season - netting 10 and 8 points. But then he exploded in Game 3 - a win over Brussels. In that game, he scored 37 points, had 9 boards, 4 steals, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and drew 11 fouls. Hit 6-9 on twos and 5-10 on threes. He now leads the league in scoring. NANA FOULLAND: Played 13 of the 40 minutes in their opening win in the top Israeli league, alternating at center with a big Ukranian. Had 4 points and 7 rebounds in that time. His team also played earlier today, but no stats yet. STEPHEN BROWN: Had 14 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists in 28 minutes as his team's starting PG. Did not shoot well, and his team lost by 14 points. Zach and Nana are playing in the top leagues in Belgium and Israel, while Stephen is in the second division in Turkey. Turkey, however, has very strong basketball - and the second division there is likely as strong as strong as the top divisions in the other two countries.

If this continues, he should earn some more PT.

I love the bottom of the article...The "formula" to determine player of the week is 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM) There are other factors involved, but it certainly removes a lot of the subjectivity. |

If ZT keeps playing at this high a level it is likely he will be invited back to Utah for NBA Summer League next year |

Any idea what salaries these guys receive for playing in Europe. I'm sure it varies by league, but I'm curious. |

Any idea what salaries these guys receive for playing in Europe. I'm sure it varies by league, but I'm curious. Typically a player in a good (but not top) European league is likely to get $60,000 to $100,000. And often free rooming. This is less than players got before 2009. That is largely because most European teams run at a loss and are funded by companies, wealthy industrialists, or sometimes towns. With Europe's economy still not great, money is not as plentiful as it once was in many countries.

It is likely that all 3 are making close to or slightly above 6 figures along with other amenities such as a car or housing. In all likelihood ZT is making the most, as he is a key player for his team |

It was a mixed weekend for the Bison overseas. - Nana played 21 of the 40 minutes, hitting 5-7 from the field but only 1-5 on FT's for 11 points. He also had 8 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, and drew 6 fouls. His team won by nine points. - Zach had a very poor shooting night - going 1-7 on twos and 1-6 on threes - in a 75-58 win. However he did draw 6 fouls, hitting 6-8 from the line, and got 8 rebounds and 3 steals. He played a game-high 31 minutes. - Stephen only played 13 minutes as his team lost again. He was 2-2 on twos, 0-2 on threes, and had 4 assists and 2 rebounds. - Cam Ayers' Italian team won its first game, 84-80. He was 0-3 on twos but 4-5 on threes, for a total of 12 points. Also 3 assists and 1 rebound in 27 minutes. His team's star is Rotnei Clarke, who played against the Bison when they met Butler in the NCAA's. - In Sweden's top league, Brian Fitzpatrick's team ran its record to 6-3. In those games, he is averaging about 24 mpg, 8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 1.3 apg. Hitting about 55% on twos and 35% on threes, but only 50% (8-16) from the line.

Updating recent games: Zach's last 3 games, starting with most recent: - 12 points and 7 rebounds in 28 minutes. - 21 points and 3 rebounds in 32 minutes. - 24 points and 8 rebounds in 34 minutes. He is averaging 17 ppg, 5.8 rpg. Hitting 42% on threes and 81% on FT's Nana's last two games: - 11 points, 12 rebounds in 32 minutes. - 9 points, 7 rebounds in 21 minutes. He is averaging 8.3 rpg in 20.5 mpg. That's over 16 rebounds per 40 minutes. Unfortunately Stephen Brown got injured in his third game and has not played the last month. No idea what it is.

Stephen Brown is apparently playing in Latvia now, averaging 20+ ppg in 4 games so far. https://basketball.eurobasket.com/team/Latvia/BC-V... Zach is averaging 15.5 ppg and 6 rpg with his team in Belgium. His team is 3-8 at the holiday break. Nana averaging 8.6 ppg and 7.7 rpg. His team is 3-7. |

Thanks for updating. A couple of comments: 1. Stephen Brown joined a terrible Latvian team, which was 1-8 when he arrived. They are 2-2 since he took over as their PG, although one of the two wins was against the last place team. He is averaging 20.3 ppg in only 26 mpg. Shooting 69% on twos, 45% on threes, and 78% on FT's. Also 2.3 rpg, 3.8 apg, and 2.5 spg. Not bad. 2. Nana had seen his minutes cut back for a few games, but has really played well the last two. Last game, in 23 minutes he had 16 points (7-7 on FGs), 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks in a rare win. The previous game in 21 minutes he had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Also drew 7 fouls. Nana currently is 6th in the league in rebounding and 10th in blocked shots, despite playing only 20.2 mpg. 3. In his most recent game a couple of days ago, Zach had 17 points and 8 rebounds in a one-point loss. He is currently 3rd in the league in scoring and 10th in rebounds.

One player I neglected to mention was Sune Swart. She was just named player of the week in the Spanish B league (I believe) after a 17 pt, 17 reb performance in her latest game. |

Nana Foulland with a big playoff game: https://twitter.com/RZASports/status/1122 178301081... Answering Bison89's question from above, the Romanian league is significantly weaker than Israel. Nana's team in Israel was going nowhere and probably had a chance to make some money by dealing him to a contender in another country. As for the pay, my guess would be that Nana's Israeli team sold his contract to his current team and the pay continued to be the same. But that is just a guess.

Looking good! Big stadiums with very few people. Is this the norm? If so, how do the teams make money?

Looking good! Big stadiums with very few people. Is this the norm? If so, how do the teams make money? A lot of them don't make money. It is common for them to be owned by corporations or wealthy industrialists for whom it is more like a hobby - and maybe a tax write-off. However if business is not going so well, there is always a danger of the checks bouncing with a certain number of teams. That is one job of an agent, i.e. to find you a team where you are certain to get paid for the whole year.
